Interesting, so speed cameras can now be more questionable state with camera detected offences,

Just write a letter saying that the vehicle was not setup in accordance to Operational Procedures, cause the steering wheel was damaged and parking was not satisfactory, ooh crediability, haha

WGMG: Work. Just dragged on forever.

And seeing Evan going off at a newbie for posting too much, when I remember back when it was him on every single thing. Then again that always seems to happen that someone gets corrected for something, and then from then on they correct everyone else.

Mercedes f*cking Vito, as per usual

New faults to add to the (extensive) list

Wiring harness recall

Steering wheel is wearing through, floor covering was wearing out, now completely destroyed.

Seat height adjustment mechanism broken. (it fell off)

Glovebox latch broken (3 week wait for a new one)

Brakes are stuffed... Again (Third set of rotors now)

Alternator fried (2 week wait for a new one)

Idler pulley bearing seized(which leads to...)

Serpentine belt fraying, splitting, and flying off... Taking the high-pressure steering pipe with it

And as of yesterday, the a/c stopped working. Dipshits at Merc can't diagnose the specific problem, so the whole damn system is being replaced.

Compressor, condenser, reciever/drier, evap box, everything.

$4500 just in parts.

Good thing the shitheap is still under warranty.

Less than two years old, hasn't even done 100k yet.

I might just let my boss know about this, we have one just over 18 months old & already:

- Replaced 3 broken door-stoppers for the rear doors, $h1tty cast aluminium brackets will break if the slightest bit of breeze catches the door.

- A/C stopped working 2 weeks into ownership, back at dealer for a week, not sure what happened or why. Then did the same thing 6 weeks later...

- Alternator fried itself, replaced.

- Recalled for wiring harness replacement, funnily enough it's mostly the alternator section that is at fault...

- Brakes needed replacing after 11,000kms :blinks:

- Power window mechanisms on both front doors malfunctioning & replaced.

Sounds like we could have a rough ride ahead... :(

Other Vito Gripes:

- The 'fly-by-wire' throttle...give me a cable ANY day!

- The manual shifting mode in the automatic transmissions....I selected 3rd gear about 6-7 seconds ago, the number on the dash changed... Mr Transmission - why are you revving your head off in 2nd still?

- Quoted by mechanic at a nameless MB dealer: "The batteries in these have enough capacity to start it....thats's it. A door open for an hour & you're not going anywhere." Also it's in an arse of a position, under the passenger seat.

- Bonnet release lever is on the passenger side...stupidly (I think anyway) left there from the RHD conversion.

Yup... Same problems

I've already had the hinges done, AND the locking solenoids.

I replaced the pads and rotors @ 10k with MB replacements, which lasted another 10k, so have replaced with Australian-made aftermarket ones now.

Was going through front tyres ever 6 thou until getting custom made camber bushes installed, and running 65psi. Now getting an AMAZING 20k per set.

Front window regs have both been replaced, driver's side twice. Its f@$king up again lately but is still working, just.

Also replaced the switches.

Oh yeah... The turbo shit itself @ 30k.

The EGR gear shit itself @60k.

My auto is also retarded.

Has 5 speeds, none are the one you need to be in. Selecting manually is pointless, because it ignores you.

Fly-by-wire is infuriating.

Again, IT decides how much throttle you want. You, as the driver, can only make recommendations, which the van then takes a few seconds to consider, before delivering the wrong amount.

That gap in traffic you were trying to pull out into? Nope.

Oh and the throttle ECU talks to the auto ECU, in such a way that they team up and try to kill you.

What it'll do is ever so gently accelerate up to walking pace, (once you're into the lane, blocking everyone) and then rocket up to redline. And stay there, churning black smoke at 40kph, holding the gear juuuuust long enough for the person behind you to develop road rage.

Waiting for that specific point in the lease period where it becomes cost effective to give it back/set fire to it and slide into a new van.

Something not built in Spain, on a friday afternoon, just after siesta time.

Oh you win by far, no doubt about it!

*Taking notes* Request aftermarket pads, keep an eye on EGR & turbo, increase tyre pressures..... This camber bush problem...is it the cause of a loud THUNK from the front end when near/on full lock? Or have we to have likely just forked the steering arms?

The text in bold is oh too damn familiar! That flat spot of acceleration you know so well was explained to me (by a VERY nicely suited) MB salesman as "being the fault of it being a turbo diesel, they all have that." On a 2009 Mercedes Benz (it's just a van...F-you, they put their badge on it, it's one of them! :laff:), with all their technology/R&D at their disposal, that costs how much, they still have turbo-lag this bad??? :blinks: Yes, I laughed in his face.

The manual mode is good for two things only:

1- Locking it in 1st & switching the traction control "off" to get around steeply inclined, very muddy worksites with tight spaces without resembling a 3 ton pinball.

2- Locking it in 2nd & switching the traction control "off" to vent your anger on a dirt road!

Something not built in Spain, on a friday afternoon, just after siesta time.

And half a bottle of tequila & a bad burrito....

if the vin starts win WDF your f@$ked! throw it away and get a WDG. GDM as f@$k!

Reason why boss (read: boss's wife who controls the money) bought a Vito instead of a Hiace was the thought that the Hiace was too high to easily get ladders on/off all the time...I'm not tall but I'd trade that for Vito's 'character' anytime!

Will check that VIN when I'm back at work next week Evan, cheers!

I have nooooo idea what that clunk is.

I asked MB, they have no idea either.

Must be (yet another) fundamental design flaw. Happens on full lock when the suspension is compressed or slack. Like they didn't make the components long enough for the full range of travel or something.

that clunk is normal, if you jerk the steering wheel while driving or hear a knock over speed humps = front sway bar D bushes.

they all got 4 grand rev limiters but this one van i drove revved out till 4800 :o

also if you select "roll test" witch allows rear wheels to spin with out abs/esp kicking in, you will be amazed how much torque these things got!

Normal to knock over pretty much anything? Jerking the steering wheel while driving these has the potential to greatly reduce your life expectancy.

I don't doubt the torque of these vans, it's the fact that you're not the one in control of it. The engine/transmission ecu's are & they, like my ex g/f, can't make a damn decision! :(

i hate esp! understeering but you try and correct it then the esp corrects it and you end up with a massive :glare: face, I CAN DO IT MYSELF!
