7shades Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 WGMG Volvo electrical systems... 240 has no blinkers AGAIN and the 740's ignition is rooted. No wait, European car electrical systems... My BMW won't start, something to do with relays. Actually, ALL car electrical systems... Chaser aircon is playing up. In fact, ANYTHING electronic... TV remote is stuffed and this computer is giving me the absolute shits. FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Quote

JiP Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Why aren't things made to last these days? We see car companies recall problematic cars yet appliance and white goods companies get away with selling us shit. My parents have a fridge that isn't that old. We just called a repairer out to inspect it and it turns out it'd be way cheaper to just buy a brand new fridge. Like WTF! If Fisher & Paykel still had their factory in Brisbane I would dump it at their front door. Quote

LukeAE71 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Actually she has calmed down a lot now... There is already 4 corollas out the back and 2 out the front, thats what started getitng her annoyed. You need to think quicker on your feet with a comeback. My missus had a go at me the other day about my car and parts 'collection' to which I replied "well we have a massive walk-in wardrobe of which you take up 90%, how about getting rid of some clothes" She quietly walked back inside and hasn't mentioned it since :) :fuzz: :y: Quote
Bamboo Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 My first. I know you old boys know it. Stupid f@$king questions!!! Quote

Its called built-in obsolescence, and its exactly what makes our stupid wasteful ego driven lazy consumerist society go round. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence It makes multinational corporations bigger and more powerful than governments. It keeps rich people rich and the corporate shareholders happy, whilst the scum like us remain in perpetual debt because we either need to or have been convinced that we want to own, update or increase the amount of shiny expensive crap in our lives because we're not complete human beings without it. /rant Quote
LukeAE71 Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 I still have my washing machine I got from a 'non-complete human' that was free because she thought it better to update than repair. 5 minutes spent removing coins from the pump and 10 years later still banging on :) :fuzz: :y: :abuse: Quote

JiP Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Its sad but the fridge in the garage is from the 1970's. We were hoping to replace it as its rusty and doesn't seal anymore. We threw out my parents first colour TV about 5 years ago. They got in the mid 70's and it still worked when we got rid of it. They replaced it with a tv that we had to replace after 10 years as it died on boxing day. Quote
