Hiro Protagonist Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) but there not, you pay 50 bucks and my mate got a letter sayin hes allowed to drive his twin turbo modified soarer, a white kitteed version of corolla gurl's got it easy as, so stupid! You have to have reasoning behind it though From the RTA site A limited exemption from the prohibited vehicle condition may be granted if: * A prohibited vehicle needs to be driven for genuine employment purposes. * Eight or more cylinder 4WD vehicles are required by country drivers who have no practical alternative. * You can prove direct ownership of a prohibited vehicle prior to the start of the scheme or before an overseas/interstate licence transfer. * The vehicle is a moderate-performance turbo/supercharged engine vehicle. Loopholes will always be found, but do you reckon it's better that there is at least some kind of application process. Edited March 30, 2009 by Hiro Protagonist Quote
trav_555 Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 i guess but he got it bloody easy, and he had a overrated mx5 convertable that he just bought, said he blew it up and got to drive the soarer instead because it was "the cheapest" car they could find on the market that he wanted and needed to get school so he got it in like a week, they approved o well, but i woulda drove the mx5 anyway, was nice and was the lsd stock version too :) Quote
orangeLJ Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 The Govt was sticking it to the RTA over those exemptions. they were handing them out like lolly pops for the last two years, but before that they were knocking everyone back (even if they had a legitimate reason ie. only one car in the family, work purposes etc) They can't find a happy medium, its the government, they f@$k everything up eventually. I don't belive in banning all high powered cars. I do think that an IQ test should be a pre-requisite for licencing though! (only joking there, IQ tests wouldnt work, idiots would still get through) Education doesnt work, thats been proven. I went to a bunch of seminars on road tolls and young deaths etc, and it honestly didnt really stick with me for long. Ive been lucky in the fact I learnt to drive young, had lots of time behind the wheel on race tracks (in karts and cars) But it swings both ways, some people who have experience still decide to push it too hard on the roads (I'm guilty) because they think they can, so training isnt always the answer either. Its one of those things, I heard it described by an older guy once (ex racecar driver, wont mention his name) that driving on the road for most youths is like a right of passage, its soemthing you live through and look back at when you are older with "god that was stupid" or you die, simple as that. People have been crashing cars and writing themselves off since cars were mainstream, its not nice but its true. I don't think they are ever going to stop it. wow. thats a spiel. Quote
trav_555 Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) i completely agree orange lj they aint gonna stop em all dieing so stop giving us all a bad name for the select few who f@$k it up i do believe we should all go through defensive driving courses though all of my friends drive front wheel drive and after its been rainin and were talkin about cars there like man i had my 121 sideways around the roundabout the other day, just put the foot down and th back kicked out, HOW? who knows but they firmly believe it i would never let any of my friends anywhere near my car especially in the wet because they would gun it and it would kick out for real and they wouldnt know what to do cause they don't have the experiance or knowledge we do learn it on our p's but these kids that drive around there fwd low powered cars that "kick out and drift" in the wet without doin handbrakeys or anything get off there p's and go buy a commodore v8 or a turbo skyline, and they will I'm talkin to one o mates right now and hes savin for an r32 for 5000, hes wont get one in decent condition but thats another story anyway when they do, they will kick out for real but they havent even had the experiance in a low powered rwd car and probably expect it to handle the same as the 121's and lasers and excels so i vote defensive driving courses :) my rant, i love long ones cause i write long ones about this subject  Travis Edited March 30, 2009 by trav_555 Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Education doesnt work, thats been proven. I went to a bunch of seminars on road tolls and young deaths etc, and it honestly didnt really stick with me for long. Negative Education (ie showing all the bad things that can happen) in this sense doesn't work, because it won't actually educate most of the target group. Hoons will shrug off seeing dead bodies as "nah that won't happen to me", and seminars just bore them (within 5 minutes they'll have their mobiles or iPods out). Positive Education (advanced driver days, advice from professionals whom the hoons respect) works a lot better - put people on a skid pan and show how reducing speed a bit makes a car much more controllable in an accident situation. As you said, it won't make everyone a better driver, and some of them will think they can go faster, but which would you prefer - a hoon who doesn't know how to control his car, or one that does? And then there's the "right place and time" bit. Give people a place to vent their testosterone that is easily affordable and available, and they'll be less likely to do it on the open road. One of the reasons why I find it stupid that places like Oran Park are closing, why DAs like Ringwood's 1/4 mile and road coarse are knocked back, and why it was such an effort to get Lakeside back in limited/restricted action. Newcastle has been much the worse ever since the speedway/skidpan closed down at Tomago, and a facility like Ringwood would do wonders, even if it is half an hour out of town. The next nearest legal place is WSID, and thats over 2 hours away. And if you don't like Eastern Creek, then Wakefield is basically the only other option in the entire state. Quote
trav_555 Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 yea i agree with that too seminars are f@$kin boring I'm guilty of it and they deny'd raliegh raceway of havin a 1/4 mile, cause of road noise @#$%#$@$%@!!!!!! kids would go there if it was cheap enough, just put up sound barriors @#$#$!!! even kids watchin drifts and stuff gets rid of some testosterone, sure some go whoah i wanna try that, but some go why thats cool, whoah look at that PRO fly off the road, i wont try that till i do on a track cause imagine if i tried that in my car on a road, no way would it do it. Kinda talk they definately shouldnt close places, they need to open more!! go karting also gets rid of testosterone! Quote
orangeLJ Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 I raced at raleigh kart track a fair bit years ago, trying to get into some enduros up there this year too. I spent pretty much every saturday night for the summer months perched on the hill at Newcastle speedway. My old man raced V8 dirt modifieds, was always good fun, was a crying shame to see it shut down. What really grinds my gears is the fact Newcastle council knocked back the proposed drag strip/motorplex plans. WSID is too far for newy people to go, and Hell, Id rather go to newcastle where there wouldnt be as many fully sicks. The govt just goes the wrong way with all their "preventative measures" whether its driving, drugs or alchohol, they just can't get it right. Quote
trav_555 Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 tell me when you come to raliegh raceway, i live 5 mins from it :) Quote
