My guess is that it is Fosters (who make VB) trying to out-muscle Lion Nathan (who make XXXX), and ironically the main beer that would have any sort of following in NSW is VB.

 

By the sound of this, New South Welshmen don't appear to have functioning tastebuds. :wink: :P The only way VB doesnt taste like :yak: is if it's a stinking hot day, you've been working, it's ICE COLD & it's free! :D

Of course, Lion Nathan also own Tooheys, who have sponsored Origin/NSW in the past, so it is probably a case of trying both to promote alongside the opposition and remove an advertising monopoly.

 

So from what I have read (pun intended)

and that XXXX being the major sponsor for suncorp stadium put their logo in the mix,

 

so its not only state vs state, its now beer vs beer,

I think Tooheys still is more popular than VB in NSW (was referring to CUB/Foster's most popular beer in NSW, not the most popular overall). Agree on the VB tasting like cat-piss though, I refuse to drink it even if it is free.
