ScottKE1X Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 He quoted me 80 bucks for four tyres with a stripe of about 3/4-1 inch wide, which I thought was insanely cheap. Needs access to power and to be parked on a flat, takes about an hour to do, from 8 to 2, anywhere in Adelaide. Darryl at SA Whitewalls - 0427 715 380. Darryl is a champ, he did mine when I was living in the Hills and the only flat spot was under a balcony. It was raining flat out and it was all dripping through the cracks, he sat there the whole time and just got wet. I felt like I was robbing him when I handed so little cash his way... get pics up as soon as they're done tom :sob: Scott. Quote
philbey Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 No love on the whitewalls yet, I'm postponing as a little birdy messaged me to say there's a set of 14 inch rims awaiting pickup! No point whitewalling a set of tyres I'm about to pull off the car! Last night I finally put the ke20 strut tops into the car. Damned if its any lower, but it must be. I think after having it apart for a week, I was expecting some nose dragging action... Stupid imagination. Pics this weekend. I might also add to Scotts thread on swapping strut tops, I came up with a little trick or two. tp. Quote
Sim Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 damn thats wicked, ke16's are ALMOST as cool as ke26's lol. i wouldn't mind tracking one of these things down one day. dougal i noticed you want to get ur tyres whitewalled, have u found someone yet? cos if not give this dude a call, can't remember his name tho for som reason :rocknroll:, hes done all my cars. $100 0414986263. he'll probably recognise ur ke20 lol. philbey Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 Ahahahahahahahaha. Not even close to ke16 coolness! Quote
Felix Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Totally agree philbey. Pity the ke2x wagons have those droopy-arsed rear airvents. Plus I've never liked the tacky plastic dashboards and wrap around front headlight surrounds. Quote
philbey Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 Damn it. Driving home and she started boiling. Up OBR she started pinging. Just got up the last steep bit and coasted into a servo… lots of ploinking noises from steam pulsing through the donk… Fresh oil coming out of the head gasket…… oh dear. 2 phone calls and 1 minute later, and I’ve lined up a couple of free donors. 6 weeks early damn you, I have a new 5k getting built! Going to see if just a head swap will do it, fingers crossed….. But while I’m under the bonnet I’ll fit up the dellortos and measure up for my 5k…. Quote
Doogs Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Thanks for the pointer on the whitewalls sim :) Hope the engine troubles sort themselves out philbey, will be great with the 5k and sidedraughts. Quote
philbey Posted May 22, 2008 Author Report Posted May 22, 2008 yeh thats what I'm hoping. Think I'll just do the horrible thing and drop a manual in too, I was nuts to think it would be any good with a 2 speed auto.... Then I can lump it up a bit more as well on the camshaft side of things!@! Quote
philbey Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 So I cut every corner, dropped a 6 buck ebay special gasket in, got it going... purred nicely. Let her warm for 10 minutes.... Dad points out some dripping water from the overflow..... Cold water.... Pop the cap, tepid water goes everywhere. Damn. Combustion pressure leak, pressurising my water jacket = A Crack.... But, I went hunting in the shed and found another head! CBF swapping it, i'll drive the 911 to work until I get my 5K finished (Head is done, block work starting!) Quote
dfunkt Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 haha, those on the GOR run will know the magical powers that chemiweld holds... i'll grab the pics of how much room my 20 has with the twin dellortos over the weekend philby. Quote
philbey Posted May 31, 2008 Author Report Posted May 31, 2008 Shit I forgot chemiweld. I reckon the old man has a bottle of it too. To the shed I go! Quote
kickn5k Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Chemiweld is Webers4x48`s best friend, got him from Frankston to Portland and back!!! Hope it works for you as driving a 911 must be such a bitch. good luck with it all. stu. Quote
PMP020 Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 chemiweld has been over taken by SEALUP in the dodgey game of headgasket seal jobs. or any other cooling system job for that matter. ive got 3 leakin welsh plugs in my wagon but thanks to SEALUP i now have zero and have had zero since i chucked it in over 6 months ago. everything can be easily fixed if u have faith in the mighty rolla. cheers, scott Quote
philbey Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) Chemewelded it yesterday, haven't driven it much though. I'll try for work tomorrow. Driving the 911 aint a bitch - Its the primo price on fuel that is the bitch hahah! And Its on club rego, so its chewing up the 90 days a year I get to drive it hahaha. Least I don't have stupid coolant leaking issues with it - AIR COOLED all the way! Edited October 31, 2008 by philbey Quote
