Taz_Rx Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Don't lock the timing for a NA engine! Getting rid of vacuum advance is as easy as removing the vacuum line from the dizzy. Locking the dizzy stops it from advancing with mechanical advancement, and it will run like an absolute dog!! Changing the throttle body is all good, but really, whats the point if it then has to flow through a hole the size of a 50c piece once its bee throught the throttle body!! It's still a restriction! What are you like with a welder? Could always make a new plenum and runners to were it bolts onto the bit that holds the injectors! Then you could get the most out of the bigger throttle body. :P Quote
Des Posted August 22, 2007 Author Report Posted August 22, 2007 I'm running fuel and ignition ecu so the dizzy mods will be needed and locking is one of them. 4ke throttle body has a TPS switch not a percentometer like the VN does which works better. I can't alloy weld but a mate can. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Ah ok, get you now, so you need to lock the dizzy to give an un-changing TDC reference for the ECU? What I meant with the throttle body is: the 4ke has a throttle body the size of a 50c piece, and hence the opening to the plenum behind it wouldn't be much bigger. The VN one would be more like a tennis ball. So once air has passed throught the tennis ball sized TB, it then has the same restriction of the 50c piece plenum opening. Quote
Des Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 Yeah i got ya. Correct with the dizzy remark. Quote
Des Posted August 27, 2007 Author Report Posted August 27, 2007 Road worthy tomorrow arvo hopefully. Quote
Xany Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Don't lock the timing for a NA engine! :P Getting rid of vacuum advance is as easy as removing the vacuum line from the dizzy. Then you could get the most out of the bigger throttle body. :P Hehehehehehe......mine runs around 28degrees all day every day. Locked for the pure fact that the mechanical advance was working too well and advancing beyond 40degrees.....couldnt be rooted playing around with different springs so we welded it up! And 28 degrees is where it makes the most power.....so we tuned it to that. Been running a treat ever since. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 I personally don't like welding dizzies to lock them, its too easy to warp the shaft with the heat. Quickest and easiest way to lock a 4k dizzy is replace the springs with cable ties!! :P Or if its a 3k dizzy, just put 2 small cable ties in the slots the weights slide in. :P Quote
