Tally Posted October 27, 2007 Author Report Posted October 27, 2007 (edited) Got the engine out today!!! Yay finally some progress!!! Didn’t get to put the new one in as it started to rain! :) Maybe put the new engine in in the morning. Need to get some degreaser, motor wash and I'm going to paint some bits in the engine bay black to make it look a bit cleaner! Cheers Tally p.s. Also I want to change the stud pattern to 4x114.3. Can I use KE30 struts? Please help me! Edited October 27, 2007 by Tally Quote
Tally Posted October 29, 2007 Author Report Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) Well didnt get to put the engine in as it rained again on Sunday so it will have to wait until the weekend. (Engine is just temporary anyway. Just so I can drive it around for a bit once I have finished with the body. 12A, 13B, 2TG or 4AGE. Keeping my options open.) But at least it’s going to be smooth sailing from here on! Was speaking to my dad and was telling him how the paint is a bit ratty and everyone who sees it thinks "sh!tbox" straight away. He said once the house is done towards the end of the year, we will make some room in the shed next to the Karman Ghia and we will paint it! My dad painted cars in the 80s and early 90s. He regularly bought old Coronas and fixed em up and painted them. Apparently they were the IN thing back then lol. Anyways here is a Nardi steering wheel I'm bidding on: Edited October 29, 2007 by Tally Quote
Tally Posted November 4, 2007 Author Report Posted November 4, 2007 (edited) Hey guys Nothing much has been done until today. Chucked in the new engine...... Just my luck. The engine doesnt fit the gearbox! The engine was from a early 72 KE20 and my car is a 74 KE25. The gearbox bolt spaces don't line up with the ke20 engine. I still have the ke20 gearbox though. Link to my thread in General mechanical: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=16056 EDIT: Problem solved... mis-aligned the gearbox.... Hopefully should be running by next weekend :) Cheers Tally Edited November 4, 2007 by Tally Quote

Tally Posted November 6, 2007 Author Report Posted November 6, 2007 Looks like a tidy 20. It will be good to see it on the road... Hey man thanks for that. Yea can't wait to get it running sweet. Hopefully this weekend I will get it running. After that ill need a new exaust and get a full tune up. Gonna get the brakes looked at as well. top call, I'm suprised T hasnt said anything yet. you were close Mark, its a ke25. not as good as the ke20s  some may beg to differ?? cheers, scott Hey scott Yea I was into the KE20s before and never thought much of the 25s. Then when I bought this one I realised just what I had got. But I do love my 20s in stock (or close to) form the 20's look nicer, with flares and race gear the 25's look a lot meaner. Yea I was going to do the full granny spec with the whitewalls and venetians etc but I got over it so I'm going for the JDM look. Flares, front lip and maybe boot lip may come a bit later on, maybe once I start to prepare it to get painted after ive mucked around with it for a bit. See what happens Cheers guys Tally Quote
Tally Posted November 10, 2007 Author Report Posted November 10, 2007 Gearbox all fixed!!! Fitted it all up and bolted it up! Hopefully be running tomorow! Went to connect the clutch cable, all good until I found out that I had misplaced the spring that attaches to the gearbox. But luckily I still have the one off the KE20 gearbox so its all good! can't wait! Gonna be slow as but it will be worth it in the end! Cheers Tally Quote
Tally Posted November 11, 2007 Author Report Posted November 11, 2007 Update: Well today I woke up nice and early eager to run to my uncle’s place (around the corner) and start work on my beloved Corolla... Got there, took all the parts and boxes out the boot and put them in the back seat. I then took the towbar off. Much better now. Wondered what the hell that old man towed in this thing. As this was a country car I supposed he used it a lot. Well I then got stuck into the engine. I took the air filter off and adjusted the carby, choke and accelerator cable. Not that hard considering I am still learning. Next I looked at the fuel line that leads from the fuel pump to the carby. It’s cracked!!! Damn another hold-up! Luckily I still had the old engine!!! So me and my uncle carefully took it off and replaced the old one on my car. Fitted it with a few minor modifications. After that I went to put the radiator in. Nope doesn’t fit!!! WHY!!! KE20 FRONT END IS THE SAME AS KE25 TILL THE FIREWALL!!! ARGHHHHHHHH!!! The bolts didn’t line up but there was only a small gap so it isn’t to hard of a job. Then I shifted my focus to the starter motor. I couldn’t get it in as the exhaust manifold was in the way, so I got down and dirty and undid it underneath the car. Half way through my uncle comes over and puts it in in a jiffy. Bloody hell what a waste of time!!! I proceed to do up the exhaust while I helped my uncle bolt in the starter. After that we went to connect the wiring to the alternator. Just my luck, the plug doesn’t fit!!! Luckily we still have the old one off the old engine. We have a ruff idea that it’s ok as it cranked over when we were trying to get the old engine running. Went to put it in.... Damn different bracket! Again, old engine here we come! So thats were I stand right about now. So its really close to the special moment of truth..... I just hope its going to be all good, had enough dramas already. Cheers Tally Quote
