demuire Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Just an offtopic post from me. Yay, tomorrow motorkhana! Have sort of been messing around with my website (http://www.fookstar.com) , changed the backend system. Was using WebAPP which was sort of like a content management system, and am now in the process of moving over to Pivot which is like a blogging tool. WebAPP does lots of things, but doesn't do any of them particularly well. Have been messing around with Pivot for about a day now, and am liking it a fair bit so far. Doesn't do as much, but what it does it does very well. Where is Jamie? I tried to call him too, but can't seem to get to him? Quote
Felix Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 think i'll skip tomorrows motorkhana. i'll go to the next motorkhana in a fortnights time. stay home, go to the markets in the morning and play with my new toy. got my new ke10 home today. was a very good score. looks quite nice with a much needed wash. see if i can get it running tomorrow. hasn't been started for over 2 years. demuire Posted September 11, 2004 Author Report Posted September 11, 2004 Oh well, if we finish early enough I might drop in maybe. Will call. Another KE10? Cool :P What plans for this one? Quote
demuire Posted September 12, 2004 Author Report Posted September 12, 2004 Ta nick. A lot of work left to do I think, it's very very unfinished. Quote
Redwarf Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Alright. I'm technically inept. Could you please tell me in words of one syllible or less what a "blog" is. My education needs furthering! :P Quote
demuire Posted September 12, 2004 Author Report Posted September 12, 2004 Rob: Click here for a definition of "blog" Here is one of the definitions given: A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is "blogging" and someone who keeps a blog is a "blogger." Blogs are typically updated daily using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Postings on a blog are almost always arranged in cronological order with the most recent additions featured most prominantly. Except mine isn't quite updated daily. More like whenever I have something to say, and mysteriously find time to say it on my blog. I've been "blogging" for quite awhile now, except I've lost a lot of my early "blogs" from either data corruption on the server (happened quite a few times while I was using MovableType), or switching systems. If I recall correctly I started off on Greymatter, then MovableType, then WebApp, and now Pivot. Quote
99 Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 (edited) I'm not sure either, but I understand it's short for "web log" and it's where people post stories about themselves etc. See Faces for an awesome example of a site with blogs! (shameless plug for friend's web site) Edited September 12, 2004 by datgirl Quote
demuire Posted September 12, 2004 Author Report Posted September 12, 2004 faces.com is a cool site, I had a look at it ages ago (when datgirl first put it up), and it had lots of cool features. But if I'm not mistaken the service isn't free. A free popular blogging site is blogger.com, and apparently Google has a blogging tool too. Quote
