HRV-00S Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) Hi all, I picked up a ram pod filter the other day and have been pondering how I'm going to squeeze it in to the engine bay. It's a fair sized piece of kit and I don't want it sucking in hot air from under the bonnet, was thinking I might have to run it up from the turbo and out the top of the bonnet and run a small scoop over the top for CAI. Only problem is it's a bit of a sleeper so any scoop would have to be a subtle/low profile design, tho most people would probably think I'm just a retard (read: ricer) with a scoop on a shit box rolla  If the foam filter element is just proud of the bonnet basically inside the scoop is water (rain) going to be a problem? Any ideas/suggestions/personal experience maybe a better option that I haven't thought of yet? This is what I've got to work with (old pic) Something like this maybe? Cheers guy's Dan :) Edited July 5, 2007 by HRV-00S Quote
Des Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Relocate the battery if possible and build a box for the pod and open up the radiator support panel a tad to let in cooler air. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 If possible id try to not breach the bonnet. Not because of rain getting in, as a small amount of water passing through the motor wont hurt it, may even help with some aspects of combustion. More so because the cops will want to pop the bonnet. Des' idea is good, if its possible for you. Quote
HRV-00S Posted July 5, 2007 Author Report Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) Yeah, I've already got boxes in the back for the fuel system/speakers. That's an option but I'm pretty lazy and it sounds like lots more work :) Plus the rad support has already been skillfully modded for the front mount piping. ie: lots of big holes cut in it (by previous owner) Thanks guy's Definitely don't want the coppers wanting to look under the lid, could be motivation enough Edited July 5, 2007 by HRV-00S Quote

Wood§tok Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 ^^^ what he said. wet pods are the suck. i agree, relocate the battery and yoll have more room for filters and induction. Quote
HRV-00S Posted July 7, 2007 Author Report Posted July 7, 2007 Thanks for your input guy's :) I done a bit of a trial fit today and should be able to run it straight of the turbo, but wont be 100% sure till the motor goes back in, will probably need to move the thermo fan over a little so It can be boxed in and divert some cold air from under the front some where. This is pretty close to where it will sit once the engine is back in Damb, I can't wait to get this thing back on the prowl  Cheers Dan Quote
Jono Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 moving the battery is a very simple job. would only take a few hours and you would have so much more room. Quote
Wood§tok Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 wont you get HEAPS of heat wash from the radiator if the filter is right behind it? Quote
HRV-00S Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 moving the battery is a very simple job. would only take a few hours and you would have so much more room. Yeah mate, but its hard to find "a few hours" with a baby to look after when I've already got so much to do. Plus once I move the battery and run the new wires (money/time) then I'd have to get some pipe bent up (money/time) it would still need to be boxed in and after looking at it yesterday I don't think it would get good air flow behind the head light. wont you get HEAPS of heat wash from the radiator if the filter is right behind it? That's probably true to, but it will be enclosed in thin alloy plate with a double wall on the front with like a 10mm air gap so the front of the air box doesn't heat up as much and a scoop under neath to draw cool air from under neath. But it's still got to be better then the old SUPER CHEAP pod that was sucking hot air straight from the radiator like in the first pic. Relocating the battery is still an option, but will have to wait till the motor is back in to see what I've got to work with. Thanks for all your input people, much appreciated :) Cheers Dan Quote
tas_ae71 Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 there isnt room to run a pipe behind your radiator to the other side is there? just that would be alot less work Quote
