hey guys,

I've just picked up a Fwd '85 Ae82 sedan 5sp with a 4A-C 1.6l donk for $200.

it's also got "SR" on the firewall which as far as i understand means it has a tweaked cam in it?

I've been searching eBay for a short shifter but can only find ones that fit '87 forward. is there one made to fit my car? or will this one fit?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SHORT-SHIFTER-TOYOT...1QQcmdZViewItem

also I'm looking for a bit more balls in it and was thinking an upgrade of carby. what would be best with what jets etc? i was thinking a webber but I'm not looking to spend all that much plus I'm looking for something that will bolt straight on with no other mods.

or would something else be more profitable? ie exhaust mods?

any direction would be greatly appreciated!

form the new guy :lolcry:

"SR" is a marketing term Toyota applied to a variety of models in the 80's, just like the "o2 Advantage" of the 90's.

It's bollocks, and means nothing with regards to performance enhancement.

The SR you refer to is short for "Super Responsive", The great marketing ploy of Toyota in the 80s..

Best bang for buck for more power would be to upgrade to a 4AFE/4AGE EFI engine.

Luckily the AE82s actually came with a 4AGE engine, So dropping one in if you want shouldn't be that hard..

wasnt really looking for something that big of an upgrade just yet as this is just a daily car while i fix up my project but the idea of driving a stock car is out of the question lol i just want little bit more from it to give commodore and falcon drivers a scare when leaving the lights :lolcry:

One "b" in Weber. Like the BBQ.

This is about the exact moment in time where having a good search around the forum would be in order. There's lots of good information around about 4AC's, you just have to poke around a bit. :lolcry:

Your box is a c50, as far as I know the only thing you need to put a weber on is an adapter plate (don't quote me). I got my plate for roughly $40 from sprint auto. Haven't put mine on yet though. An exhaust would be a good idea.

If you read around the toyota forums you can find some good info. It'll basically tell you the exhaust manifold is bollocks and so is the airbox. Put on a weber, get an exhaust (with extractors, otherwise remove butterfly in stock manifold) and remove all unnecessary emissions gear. With the age of these engines, you'll notice the difference a good service will do it. One of the best mods I've done is change all the fluids heh.
