Townace was still there last night, but I forgot to take my camera home!

with any luck it'll still be there this arvo and I'll get some pics of the diff, if JC807 doesn't beat me to it. All good mate. :D

The diff does seem a bit wider than a corolla one. Its also coil and banjo!!

Was shocked at the size of the stock muffler when I had my head under it. Its seriously nearly as big as my 13b!!! :P

as far as bell housing bolts, I'm more inclined to suggest they are a W50/40 pattern rather than a W55-58. In the second pic of the GB you can just see a slightly raised section where I have no bolts in my W50.

7shades: Could you please get a price for a 7k flywheel off the "idiot wreckers" for me? :D

I'll get a few prices and see how we go... See we have an abundance of vans up here, bit of an elephant graveyard really. All the backpackers buy them down south, drive them up here and can't sell them off cos there's just sooo damn many of em... most get abandoned and picked up by the council.

You can pick up a running, rust free slightly banged up hiace for $50 from the abandoned vehicle auctions... EA-ED falcons even less.

There were some monster trucks in town last weekend doing their thing in the showgrounds, they bought 20 of em to drive over :P

This thread is bad for me. Now I can see myself accumulating a glut of smelly vans to pillage for bits. Like I don't have a whole 1/4 acre full of goddamn parts cars already. Damn you all.

Taz... you need to change your avatar I am transfixed by it... its just so.... eccentric and mesmerizing

yeah, it makes for nice quiet driving even when the motor is really working. they are great vans to drive, a bit less torque than a hiace but a much nicer drive as the wheels are in front of you and its a better seating position. better mileage alround but very good on the freeway (for a van, loaded up). umm, its got dual airbags too which is hard to find in a manual model as after 2001 they are all automatics.

I also noticed the other day that the townace runs a 4x114.3 PCD... interesting little tidbit of info if anyone was looking for some chaser/inteceptor-esque rims on their rolla, though they'd be a bit heavy.

Got them on my car mate! Not really that heavy either. :y:

Sorry to dig up an old thread...

I have a KR42R townace, did have a 7K in it but I have put in a 3RZ and hilux box. Trying to find some info on the diffs. Anyone know if the centres are like hilux's? Basically it's now geared too low (4000rpm = 110kph)

I use it everyday for work so I need to know what it is before I rip it out.

Also have a set of 4 of those factory rims (4x114.3) with tyres (lowish tread) if anyone is interested. make good burnout tyres.

And on a side-note, as the hilux box had a mechanical speedo sensor, and the townace has an electronic, does anyone know of an electronic sensor that will fit into a hilux box? (99 hilux 2wd) forget the series, W52 perhaps?

the diff in the kr42 is too weak for its application. also very expensive. my second diff is now sounding virtually f@$ked.

i don't have too much stuff in the van but it must be too heavy for it, as the motor certainly isn't overpowering it.

Sorry I forgot about this thread....

Old box got sold with the motor to a guy with a Suzuki Sierra...

Rims are 14"s with load rated 185's on them from memory.. (Doesn't give a profile, but they're tall - almost the same rolling diameter as 225/45/17's)

Air-con has been installed, but still needs a controller (This townace was carby up until '99, then went to EFI) Mine is an EFI, but the air-con is from a carby one, controllers are different.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a service manual for one of these things? I've searched the net and can't even find a wiring diagram, let alone a service manual.

Thanks!

Dave
