kangaroosa Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 At least the bulk of the metal went downwards I guess. I have seen a movie of a rotary powered wagon that had a flywheel explode. Bits of metal went upwards and fell amongst the spectators at the drag strip. Quote
7shades Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Note to self... re-torque flywheel bolts next time I have the clutch out Quote

LINDSAY Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Oh the memories , i did something similar in my RX2 many years ago at the old eastern creek except it was my clutch pressure plate that exploded , shattered the bell housing snapped half the rear end plate of engine off , cut clean through the exctractors and very luckily only just cut into a fuel line but didn't go through the hose , was a long time till back on the road had to replace everything behind radiator back to tailshaft was quite expensive Quote
sammo[RL] Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Holy Crap! Would have made an interesting sound....... Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 Red I know those gas turbine pics well..lol MMM bit of a hot start you could say..lol I have seen a jet powered go kart similar to the one I made lift off the ground doing 100km/h when its single 100mm diameter turbine let go at 80,000RPM so imagine a Boeing 767 engine letting go......
