7shades Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Or just buy Mrs. Dwarf a scooter and a raincoat and save your cash until 2009 I'm forcing Mrs. Shades to make do with driving my shitter KE70 (much to her disgust) until I decide on which AWD wagon to import... These girls can be remarkably understanding at times... ;) Quote
Corolla_Gurl Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 all new cars are a bucket of shit imo plastic fantastic....never built to last and most look like a dogs breakfast..... stick with the older cars... they built better (and stronger imo) and parts ect are fairly cheap. Quote
Redwarf Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 can't do a novated lease on an old car.... ;) Quote
ancullen Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I had heard the rumours about the V6 AWD version, but I have been trying to avoid getting my hopes up. 200kW and AWD would be nice, as would the 330Nm that the 3.5L V6 makes. Of course, the added bonus is that those with the money could always swap the 3.5L engine out and drop in a Prado 4.0L V6 with the high compression pistons and direct injection heads of the Lexus version of the 3.5L and find themselves with 250+kW. And that's before adding a supercharger kit. Wow, a Corolla that is good from the factory AND has the potential to be modified for more power with factory bits. It's been a long time between drinks Mr Toyota... Quote
7shades Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 It has... And yeah its going to be the Aurion V6 so by the time its released there should already be a half decent amount of aftermarket stuff floating around for that engine... and the blower option too... lets see how long it takes before someone yanks THAT off and whacks on a dirty big garrett T04 and FMIC.... ;) Gee maybe we'll even get a new Supra this decade, and if we're reeeeaaally lucky the shinybums in tokyo might find merit in the "new" rwd sprinter concepts floating around... Apprently they're not confident that a small 2 door rwd will sell very well... HELLOOOO Mazda has sold MILLIONS of MX5's for f@$ks sake... Quote
ancullen Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Toyota has missed the boat BIG TIME on releasing a new Sprinter. If they'd had their finger on the pulse they would have released it about two-three years ago and would be raking it in. It wouldn't even need to be especially powerful - just a 1.6-2.0L four cylinder engine and five/six speed manual transmission. If they'd been really clever they would have had the Sprinter as a four cylinder version, and a new Celica with slightly different body work and a 2.5-3.0L V6, just like the Camry and Aurion are the same basic car. They would have sold a shit load, as the Sprinter could undercut the MX5 in price whilst maintaining similar or better performance, and the Celica could have been a cheaper option for anyone wanting a 350Z. Oh well, when a company's raking in billions of dollars each year anyway, they're generally not too fussed about a couple of million more. Quote
7shades Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) Yeah... completely agree with you there... The new sprinter/celica could have been like the celica/supra thing they had going on in the 80's... Same basic chassis, different driveline and cosmetic bodywork. Even if they'd budget-ised and lightened the Beams Altezza slightly instead of making it all fluffy and heavy... a coupe and hardtop convertible version would have looked porn too. Oh well. I guess enthusiasm has taken a back seat to economic rationalism at Toyota HQ for the last 10 years or so.... Edited June 14, 2007 by 7shades Quote
ancullen Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Exactly. Oh and I don't think there'll actually be a new Supra. But the Lexus LF-A that has been photographed going around the Nurburgring does look a lot like a more modern JZA80... Quote
Clown Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Whats a ballpark figure on the price though? Hey guess what... I was just down at the shed again and the toyota boys let me in on a little secret.... The AWD 200kw version WILL be released in AU in 2009 as a TRD badged "sportivo" (like the Aurion) and will be marketed squarely as a competitor to the WRX... there will be two sportivo variants with the option of a supercharger! Apparently this is toyota's new sportscar push following the demise of the celica and mr2... I'm excited :) Quote
ancullen Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 For a vehicle with a 200kW V6 and AWD? My guess would be $45,000. Quote
ancullen Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Redwarf - check out the new Ford Fiesta XR4 - 110kW in a 1090kg car. Pity it's only a 5-speed. Quote
Redwarf Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I sadly have an illogical aversion to anything with a Ford badge. Unless the letters BDA happen to be involved. :) Quote
7shades Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Is the Polo GTi going to leave you feeling insecure or inadequate? Cos they're a good bit o fun... they have the engine from the previous gen Golf GTi... Quote
