Undertaker_is_the_best Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 well thats one hell of a busy day and some great progress made my hands of to you sir :lolcry: Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Okay lastly a question about my fuel lines and tank.Inside the rubber part to the left there is a bolt. Is that the drainage nut to the fuel tank? Also to the right are the two fuel lines. One that goes to the fuel filter and the other that goes to the charcoal canister. I should be right to drain the tank through that right? Yes big nut in the rubber boot is the main tank drain plug. Lines are send and return (from carcoil canister). Drain it from the big bolt as then you'll get all the sludge from the bottom (I found a roofing nail in mine last time I did it! :lolcry:  ). If you do it through the fuel line it'll take heaps longer and you won't get it all anyway. Also the condition of the lines aren't the best. just surface rusty. I should be right to sand them back with some wet and dry, or is it best to paint them too? Fuel ines are alloy so they won't rust (to a degree). Paint them if you want or you could pollish them if you wanted to be super wanky!!! Would take bugger all time to polish them but really whats the point if they're under the car!? :lolcry: Quote
JiP Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 What if I polish the surface rust off them? It shouldn't come back should it? Quote
blktoy35 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 good work on the under body sound deadening ive always wanted to do that to my coupe can't get motivated enough...lol Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Alloy rusts differently to steel. The top layer will oxidise and form a layer which will protect the alloy underneath. Wipe this layer off (to expose new shiny alloy) and it'll just happen again.... over time. So: Wipe/sand old oxidation off, polish with wet and dry, then CLEAN COAT them so the paint substitutes the "sacrificial" top layer of oxidation. :lolcry: Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 just wandering jip did you manage to apply a second coat of the sound deadner Quote
JiP Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 Oh I did and then some... Second coat... Other side. (First Coat)... Wheel well (Not Complete/First Coat)... Now remember this from yesterday... Today... And lastly. Rust repair? What rust repair... After... I've also started work on the diff. Pics later when I've got some real progress. JiP Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 (edited) Well yesterday we got some more rust repairs and body work done... Firstly we've welded both these seams as I want a smooth flowing look... The smashed up sills under the car have been straightened... Hole... Rusty hole... Plated... More holes... Holes gone... JiP Posted October 28, 2009 Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 Okay so I was thinking about the front lip today. In theory I should be able to leave off the apron right? Both guards bolt into the radiator support panel and the lip should sit right under the front bumper. Tell me what you guys think... Quote
Undertaker_is_the_best Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Okay so I was thinking about the front lip today. In theory I should be able to leave off the apron right? Both guards bolt into the radiator support panel and the lip should sit right under the front bumper.Tell me what you guys think... yea thats going look pretty awsome there jip so i take it the car is stayin yellow and if you keep the lip black that will look pure sex i reckon the yellow with a stand out front lip FTW LOL Quote
JiP Posted October 28, 2009 Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 Nope, Electric Orange is the name of the colour. Its the XR5 Focus orange. Still look good in orange. Not sure if the lip will be black or body colour. Leaving it unpainted sounds better cause it wont get stone chips. Quote
TommyGun Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 I think the lip will look better black, just my opinion =P Give me a yell if you need any unskilled/basically useless help with anything. =D Quote
