hey guys, I'm 17 and havent yet bought my first car. i was deciding between a swift GTi 1.3L or a rolla AE92.

the AE92 is my managers car from work, which has 220,000kms on it. I'm not sure if the engine is a 4AGE but he has told me it has abit of up and go about it. He has given me the option to buy it for $1,500. i thought it was a very cheap plus good option as the car has been in his family since new and hasn't got any problems apart form the right back window handle coming off, but thats a easy fix. The rolla has no dints no rust or anything and has a good clean straight body.

do you think its a good option?

the other option was to fly up to sydney and look for a GTi that was advertised.

i just wanted a small car that was abit zippy for a first.

thanks, and great site.

The ae92 will either be a 100kw smallport 4AGE, 4AFE or a 4AFC.

4AGE is obviously the most powerfull of the 3 but $1500 seems to make me think its a 4AFE/FC.

Either way its still cheap if its in good nick.

i'd go with the ae92 if it's a hatch lol.

IMO, if you go to sydney to look for a GTi it would cost you some more money yeah? i'd rather use that money to get a stereo system or lower suspension or exhaust system :jamie: but again it depends on what you want and the condition of the car.

GTi's are great fun (I had one) but most have had the ring flogged out of them by now (especially in sydney... there were a few years in the 90's when swifts were fully sik uleh)

AE92's will just keep going and going and going and its not uncommon at all for a 4AFC/FE engine to have clocked over 400k without blowing any smoke or needing any internal repairs.. maybe a water pump or alternaltor but thats about it.

The last AE92 I had before my current one was owned by my uncle since new and had never had a single engine-related part replaced..... ever.... and It had 320ks on it. Just serviced every 10k.
