camerondownunder88 Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 ^^^ Thats an original jack THANKS...Felix don't worry about the pic..LOL Yeah PM'ed Homers KE17 and no reply. THink Ill get the vernier out and measure it up and email T3. As planning suspension setup atm. Custom front springs KE2X spring mounts, want adjustable strut tops, sway bar etc. Also a KE15 is awesome to drive and ill admit I like the feel of un-boosted brakes BUT I find if I don't drive car for a week the little bit of dust and dirt that blows onto rotors the first 10min of the drive car is hard to pull up. Once warm and clean I find I get better braking and feel what is happening a lot more..Also reminds me another addition to list: - Wind off rear brakes Fitted KE70 front brakes and under braking will lock rears first. As there non auto adjustable ones so have to adjust your self. Is awesome for setting brake bias. Girl Friend likes driving in it just hates the rattles..LOL But thats what makes the car I feel..LOL Cam Quote
parrot Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Yeah PM'ed Homers KE17 and no reply. I'll text him. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Did some research. Think KP60 strut tops are the same as KE1X. I can source KP60 strut tops :P Cam Quote
Felix Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 And WAY better to drive than KE30. You actually have to drive it..LOL I let a mate drive it the other week who had never driven a car with such a light weight short wheel base and pre 1980..lol He couldn't drive it. had no clue about some basic driving skills you need to make a car like this handle so car has tought me a lot (spun out 2 times on road within first week of having it ont he road) so you do learn to respect it and every time I get in this car to drive it is AWESOME. Nothing can top it really when it comes to motoring I belive. Yea they are WAY more fun than a ke30. I had a ke30 2 door sedan for a first car that I drove for 5-6 years. Absolutely no comparison to a ke15. I don't miss my old ke30 at all. Get a swaybar on the front first before you worry to much about other stuff. The swaybar is the single best handling mod you can do to a ke1x alongside with some decent tyres. If you go with adjustable strut tops, is there actuallly any room to dial in some negative camber? Really I think you'd need a set of coilovers with smaller diameter springs to get a decent benefit from the adjustable tops. Cool, the jack in Parrots post looks identical to mine. Quote
KEI069 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Nice job Cam. Thats real tidy. Love the colour too. What sway bar do you intend on using, I found the whiteline one fouled on the ke70 brake calipers before hitting full lock. anyway, enjoy the driving pleasure, it looks awesome Cheers Justin Quote
philbey Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Cam looking good mate. I'm keen to see how you go with the KE1x aircon as well, I'm keen to get one in mine some day. I've got a whiteline swaybar ready to fit to mine as well, but most people I know have had it foul with the discs on full lock. By the way, sorry i didn't catch you when you were in adelaide the other week man, I didn't spot it in my Pm's until the monday. More notice next time man! Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 Felix: I don't miss my KE30 when I get in this. But KE30 is good for getting me to work and a tad easier to drive..LOL well less driving needed. As for strut tops. With a stock diameter spring wont get too much variance. But every degree counts. I even just want a fraction more. As I don't want to wear my tires out to fast. But I know atm my tires wear just slightly more as you saw on the outside so even if I get one degree should make for more even wear. KEI069: Yes I plan to use the whiteline sway bar. But I am going to consult them to see if I can have it squashed in a inch or so each side to avoid it hitting my calipers. I belive the sway bar was designed for a drum break front as they don't foul if you have drums. But if they wont adjust it for my self I'll be just winding out my steering stops. KE15 turns so bloody well anyway I shouldnt miss a few degrees. philbey: I have all ready been pricing up fitting air con back on. Local shop said some old pumps are surprisingly good when overhauled. Some don't need a single part. They said worst case about $300 to fix then a few $$ for rubber lines. $50 for a new tank for get the name has the valve in it..LOL so for about $500 I should get it in the car. But I am liking the look of the new electric aircon pumps very efficient for small cars now on the market. This would drain less engine power so I'm also looking into this path. As for my trip. I had little time to plan. Still had a good time would have loved to see the hills but :P Oh well next time..LOL Cheers Cameron Quote
Felix Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Aircon would be nice in summer. Do liteaces or whatever comes with a 7k have a smaller aircon compressor? I don't really notice the swaybar hitting my calipers much, so long as I don't wear my front brake pads down to far. I have previously wound the steering stops out a bit though. Still has plenty of lock. A swaybar will reduce outer tyre tread wear a lot. Quote
Doogs Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Good stuff Cameron, looks great. How much did the Nolathane bushes set you back ? Cheers, Dougal Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted May 2, 2010 Author Report Posted May 2, 2010 ^^ can't remember exact price. I shall enquire again but. As I am going to be contacting the Bush maker soon as.... Other day I also got a set of NOS FRONT KE15 leaf spring eye bushes. RARE as and I shall be getting them re-made , I will probably do a large batch as I know how much we all need these. So If your interested PM me. After I install these rear end is complete for now.....LOL Cheers Cameron Quote
Trev Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 I was following Cam today for about 3k's and this thing sounds hot, You should see the people that turn and watch it go by, I had to laugh when this lady aged in her 60s or 70's stopped and watch it go past. Quote
parrot Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Go Cam! Old chicks magnet!! You know I'm always up for any remanufactured anything for this car. Wonder if it's the same lady Teddy(?) bought his Supra from. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted May 15, 2010 Author Report Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) HEY, Yeah I didnt see it was you first following Trev. I though ah an AE86 pppffff..... Then I saw the PPQ's That was when I waved. And as you can tell I do enjoy the drive ;) is such a fun little car not the fastes, doesnt handel the best But sure is fun as to drive and head turner YES. Funny you noticed the people watch this car. I have given up I get looks EVERY where lol Just funny I had an old lady looking ;) But I love driving places with my bass. People watch me get out holding a 1962 fender and then in old car I get looks for ages then..LOL And just to point out YES young femals do also look at this car..LOL And on the sounding HOT.....come for a drive with my straight through exhaust got a shop to make a piece that removes muffler for "track" days..LOL WOW can hear me suburbs away..lol Love it. But oly gets used for fast servo runs and back home and then made legal again. But now for updates: Below is my list to do. Crossed out items done :lolcry: Bold items are new issues to get out. -front suspension upgrade (sway bar, custom springs, KE20 tops new bushes etc) - Rear passenger side shock gone so wheel scrubs out sad.gif Must get new shocks ASAP. - Heater core busted sad.gif have to fix asap winter coming. - oil leak front harmonic balancer seal - badly want to put in an over flow catch tank for radiator (fun not having one but prob a very sensible thing to add does help) - gear stick knob has some glue residue on it want cleaned off makes hand sticky when driving. - drivers door hinge adjusted (I re-pinned but needs adjusting hard to close and not sitting right) - New Bailey channel for windows - throttle cable way to stiff to move gotta play around here (installed a NOS item but jams up bad. etc just needs adjustment) - I stuffed wheel alignment so gotta redo it. - adjust steering stops (can turn left more than I can turn right..LOL) - put rubber stoppers along front guards for bonnet (stop it movign heaps and keep dirt out.) - install "old school spot lights with HID mod" (stock lights crap wose than my KE30 so night driving an issue) - fix 1 small tear in driver's seat (simple seam needs re stiching) - find a KE1X jack. (has a KE3X jack in boot and it will not fit mount so rolls around) - Glove box lid rattles needs rubber tabs to stop vibration and re adjustment. - one break light bulb is half faded needs a new one - fuel cap door lock busted needs new one - passenger 1/4 window needs a lube. - change diff oil. -Fins or wipers so they stay on windscreen at 60mph LOL Faster I go to the higher they go..LOL - rear window venation - New bushes in front leaf spring eyes. - install KE3X thermostat housing and use KE3X heater hose to re hook up heater. - Install after market cam a KE70 4K-C cam is SHIT in a 5K - fix throttle pedal rod jams up wont slide smoothly. - rear parcel shelf coverng starting to come off re glue - new wooden screeen for boot to cover fuel tank needs making - install old school air filters sponge type - enjoy car more - replace rear wheel beaarings - get speedo calibrate (well at least prove how accurate it is) - Straight through pipe made up for exhaust for possible track days and jsut when i wanna have to much noise and fun New things: Due to 5K install a stock K-B air filter box hits bonnet see if I can stop it wires to indicator stick worn out and tonight played up causeing all indicators on. Front left head light off right hand head light on high beam and no dash lights WTF. FIxed on side of the road but must now re do properly CLEAN Get a 1/4 mile time :bash: So as you can see got a few things done. Replaced the diff oil. Put teflon in it to made it a bit quieter but still have this weird "harmonic" that comes in at 70mph and leaves at 80mph and diff is quiet again weird. Not a LOUD horrible sound at that speed just weird. The magnetic chip plug came out pretty clean also :laff: Gear stick know I fixed today cleaned it up so much smoother changing gear now and no sticky crap on it :laff: Rear shocks IN :) I will doa big suspension up date later have new front struts being made (work etc) and there going in so will write up about rear shocks. But I am using TRD AE86 adjustable ones. WOW stiffest setting car DOESNT MOVE at all. But there great huge range of settings (8) and so fast to change awesome. Best thing I have done so far. ANd old shocks ummm lets jsut say thye might of well have not been in there..lol Original Toyota items to..LOL As for heater. Got it fixed found leaking part cut and brased it up with my oxy. And neated it up I sat there with a shaped screw driver pushing out all the bent fins lol fan feels like a twister in the car now SO much better. But I can recomend to EVERYONE clean out your fan box in a KE1X. Mine had a jungle worth of leaves and leaf matter and plants in it totally blocking air path over heater and were backing up into the fan and it was mulching the leafs. CRAZY didnt take a photo but WOW a must do as KE1X seem to SUCK in leafs there..LOL Also cleaned all the fan blades. So much dirt on it over 40 years. Pic below of heater before install again, one part of core I totally cut out I packed with correct foam again so air will go through heater in car still and not around it so still does work people. But still have to run rubber hoses to the heater now and got my self a ball valve to hide under dash as heater tap. After market ones look bad and KE1X one stuck open :( So hidden ball valve will work :) But hoping to get a 1/4 mile time this week coming wed night at willowbank people. That is if I get ahead of uni work..lol Cheers Cameron Edited June 30, 2010 by camerondownunder88 Quote
Felix Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Nice work with the heater core Cam. Yea you get a lot of interested looks with the old sprinters. Nobody really knows what they are, or that the model even existed. I'm keen to also take my ke15 out to Willowbank, but not sure if I could make it this week... Have to sort out my headlights as only the drivers side works on high beam for some reason, think it is the indicator switch. Quote
