flat out Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 makes me more confident about getting my ke55 to slide! Quote
78_7kRolla Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 that is wicked!!!!!!!!!! Good find :jamie:  Quote
bernieboy Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 (edited) Correct me if i'm wrong, kp6x starlets rear end are coil sprung standard. So it would be easier to setup for drifting than any leaf sprung Corollas. Edited April 27, 2007 by bernieboy Quote
Redwarf Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 So it would be easier to setup for drifting than any leaf sprung Corollas. That is the biggest crock I've ever heard. Quote
Raven Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 (edited) Correct me if i'm wrong, kp6x starlets rear end are coil sprung standard. So it would be easier to setup for drifting than any leaf sprung Corollas. I find it funny that people think that leaf-sprung cars CANNOT slide or are easier to set up. Bernieboy, may I ask what you're basing your claims on? Edited April 27, 2007 by Raven Quote
anastasios Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 (edited) actually a kp61 would be harder to slide due to the short wheel base...well harder to hold a constant angle Edited April 27, 2007 by anastasios Quote
Retrospekt Posted April 27, 2007 Author Report Posted April 27, 2007 solid axels = constant 0 degrees camber on rear and no deformation, which is the aim of most drift cars and the million different suspension parts you see bantered around as drift essentials Quote
Wood§tok Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 awesome vids man. trawling youtube is soooo much fun. cheers. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Damn that was cool! But I'm still using the Starlet for parts....... Quote
Retrospekt Posted April 28, 2007 Author Report Posted April 28, 2007 we should sticky the definitive youtube video thread, and list the 'must see' corolla/old toyota/driving vids. could lead to alot of people wasting away trawling youtube though. Quote
bernieboy Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 I think i've been misunderstood. I didn't say that leaf sprung cars cannot drift. Any rwd car can wether its IRS or live axle, leaf or coil sprung. I drive & own a ke25 & its pretty damn easy to hang the rear end loose, but i'm no drifter. But many of those top level D1 drifters do not choose to use cars with that sort of suspension. Even the te27 Levin entered by TTE in the 1975 1000 Lakes Rally was live axle coil sprung. Then again maybe it was because of the rules. (This is shooting of topic now) Specs are below: Toyota Corolla Levin (TE27) 1974-1977 (Group 4) The oil crisis had a serious impact not only upon the world economy as a whole but also on motor sports. As a result, the Rally Monte Carlo was cancelled. Since Toyota chose not to participate in rallying events as a factory at this time, Ove Andersson was entrusted with the company's rally activities. He entered the TAP Rally (Portugal) and other events in 1974. In 1975, he participated in the WRC series driving a Corolla Levin. Adopting European rally car standards, the Corolla featured a compact, light body powered by a 185ps 2T-G taken from the Celica. The TE27 made good use of its advantages, and Hannu Mikkola drove it to TTE's first victory in the 1975 1000 Lakes Rally. Engine Body and Chassis Designation 2T-G Height 1335 mm Type Water-cooled inline, 4-cyl., 16 valve DOHC Length 3945 mm Bore and Stroke 85.0 x 70.0 mm Width 1590 mm Total Displacement 1588 cc Wheelbase 2335 mm Fuel System Nippon Denso Mechanical Fuel Injection Track front/rear 1270 x 1295 mm Lubrication Drysump Weight 800 kg Compression Ratio 10.5 : 1 Transmission 5 Speed Maximum Output 185 ps / 136 kw Suspension Suspension McPherson-type struts, Solid axle with coil-spring Maximum Torque 185 Nm / 6000 rpm Brakes Front ventilated disc, rear disk Tyre and Wheel Pirelli / Minilight Taken from http://www.teamcelica.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=443 Now wouldn't you love to have that sort of suspension in your leaf sprung car. I know i would. Sure enough redwarf has many years racing his ke25 so i assume it would be quite easy for him. Also i agree that the shorter wheelbase of the kp61 makes it harder to keep a constant angle as noted by anastasios. Quote
bernieboy Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 I'm most probably wrong about all my assumptions. Quote
flat out Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 i was on the same line as anasosis, the shorter the wheelbase the quicker it will spin around, but i think this it bullshit because t18's are ment to have very similar chassie to the sprinter, tho a ke55 is 30mm shorter in wheelbase, (coming from an actul car book) Quote
