And hitting a gutter and flooring it is what you expect after years of driving :S

They are really confident arent they, Most people here don't spell properly because they are too lazy to type full words or are foreign to the english language.

I'm not implying for a second that these learners are anything near competent. Flooring the car after hitting a gutter is obviously a reaction to shock by an inexperienced and possibly frightened driver.

But, simply because it takes someone longer to learn to drive is no reason to vilify or bastardise them.

Obviously, the show is played up somewhat by the producers and aired simply for its entertainment value but you can't blame these learners for trying.

Perhaps this is a safer way for them.

I would also like to put forward the question "who is more dangerous? an incompetent driver or a P plater driving a modified corolla on invincible pills?"

I believe I reserve the right to criticise. Yes, the show is exploitative in the respect that these people have been carefully selected from a talent(less) pool to be the most hopeless cases available. The fact that a 4 page (thus far) thread has emerged as a result is testament to the fact that people are watching it...

However... these representatives do form an unquantified percentage of the population and serve to illustrate a very simple realisation.

Some people quite simply do NOT posess the cognative skill to operate a motor vehicle. Full stop.

As an example:

I am a qualified and endorsed helicopter pilot. In my younger days I had dreams of joining the RAAF and playing with the really cool toys. However, for some unknown reason I just do not posess a natural ability in mathematics, a integral part of flying at an elite level. I sat literally dozens of exams and spent countless hours in the air attempting to refine that abilty... but I just cannot do it. I will never be able to fly with the air force or even for a commercial operator... I am restricted to chartering my own aircraft.

I'm not saying these people should have given up entirely the first time they stalled at the lights... but in all seriousness... 500 lessons and still f@$king it up?

Let it go, ride a bike, and find something else you're naturally good at.

Not every P plater is on "invincible pills" but every incompetent driver is incompetent so i would rather take my chances with a P plater.

My wife is 29 and has only ever had a motorbike licence, we now have her "L" plates Oh joy. She comes to a corner, leans right over inside the damn car and keeps the steering wheel straight. f@$k near kills us (our 3 year old is in the car), semi trailer coming at us and we are in the wrong lane. No problemo, "He would have moved" she said after I grabbed the steering wheel. Driving instructor has told her after one lesson, that she knows the basics and just needs confidence. Right.... she took on a White superliner in a Ke-55, if that ain't confidence I don't know what is. My Ke-55 has a huge ding along the LH side from where she ran over a pot plant that is almost as big as the car and that was in our front yard. I think with a second kid on the way she needs to be able to drive, I'm not sure she will ever be able to do it safely though and that is the real issue.

I watched this show for the first time tonight. I couldn't believe that stupid tart Belinda got her licence, especially after the way she acted when her husband was trying to give her directions. I noticed she's a drama teacher - or is that drama queen?

As for the wet braking slalom test at 80km/h, I reckon EVERYONE should have to do that before getting a licence. Sure we could all get through that slalom in the wet from 80km/h - but when the uncertainty factor is thrown in (not knowing whether you're meant to go right or left) you suddenly get a real world factor. You never know when someone is going to jump out on the road in front of you, but you need to be prepared to react and swerve to avoid them. And gaps in traffic can open or close at any time in the real world, so this test was one of the best I've seen.

The claustrophobic bloke made a good go of it. As for the stupid bitch that was panicking before she even had to touch the brakes, she has issues and should realise that she is not the sort of person that should have a licence. Sure she could potentially pass the driving test, but that doesn't mean she'll be able to react appropriately in the event of a dangerous situation or a sudden change in conditions. I hope she wasn't too badly injured by the glass hitting her face though. See the damage she did to the driver's side of the car? I love how in the promo for next week's show they show her scraping the passenger side up against some parked cars. Someone REALLY needs to sit her down and have a frank discussion with her.
