smacko84 Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 I've avoided this thread but here's my 2 cents. I have watched 2 episodes and i have never been so frustrated over a television show. I can understand the aim of the show which is to teach these people how to drive properly so that they can better their lives and job situation etc. However, as previously stated for one to on their L's for 10+ years its time they signed up for life membership with Busways. Granted a few of them it is simply a confidence thing and you can see they have some skills or potential and are really listening eg. the cerebral palsy girl. But for some who get the shits at their 'co-driver' and blame them for their problems and instead of being more determined they give up, that is more than enough reason not to watch and for them not to succeed. I can understand the occational dummy spit initially as we all have been learners and understand how they may be feeling but for people at that age and who have been driving for so long? Also that lady the other night who got the shits at he husband co-driver and instead of listening to him just yells and dumps on him, i feel for that bloke, road rage in the making. Ummm.... i guess thats enough of my rant.
Guest Sbox Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 I've seen the ads for it, but I get my does of useless f@$ks pretty much everytime I drive.

I can't believe his sister is that bad!!!! with a brother like that?? anyways it gets me frustrated too. ohh and Hiro_Protagonist, mate you need too chill a bit, relax it's just a TV show!
smacko84 Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 ...serious anxiety problems and decide panicing is the best thing to do in a car... Just read the thread properly... BAhahaha at the above quote....

I can't believe his sister is that bad!!!! with a brother like that?? anyways it gets me frustrated too. ohh and Hiro_Protagonist, mate you need too chill a bit, relax it's just a TV show! I'd say it's most of the other people in this thread that need to chill a bit. Everyone seems to be assuming that the minute these people get their license they're going to immediately switch back to being hopeless and start terrorising the roads.
Des Posted April 26, 2007 Author Report Posted April 26, 2007 16 years of being hopeless is a hard habit to break.

Guest Sbox Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 OK, so my rolla is out of comission due to the neoprene bushes in the front end radius rods distintergrating after 2 years. Control arms flopping around, fix it tomorrow as I had to fix my damn jack today. I caught the bus easy, then as we are driving along a Toll freight mini van is backing out of someones drive way and I'm like "he is going to stop cause there is a bus coming". Then I'm like "Mr bus driver he is not going to stop so swerve" and the end result is Toll van minus rear bumper, tow hitch and the spare wheel carrier lots of other arse end bits squashed plus moved about 2metres. How the f@$k don't you see a bus bearing down on you, I checked while we were all standing around waiting for a bus that didn't have a tiny dent in the F/L/side and he had a clear field of vision. First bus I've caught in 6 years. Gave me a fright, but probably not as much as the kid who went bouncing down the aisle and then bolted like the whole thing was his fault when the doors opened.
flat out Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 theres some gay fellas on there that wont stop laughing, there like little girls :jamie:
Guest Sbox Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 I find it funny that we are talking about learners, yet my somewhat prophetic experience this arvo (I wasn't even driving) sorta proves the point. Which is that some people should not be on the road and can't be taught and some people on the road should not have been allowed to get there. A driving liscence is a privelage not a right.
andro0o Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 A driving liscence is a privelage not a right. No one said it was. Its just the tv station using theyre lack of driving skills for a tv show, it was not said that because they were nationally embarassed on tv could they have theyre lisence in return. Its just the tv station exploiting peoples weaknesses, i bet a whole bunch of you hate spiders, and if u got caught on tape screaming like a bitch cause one was crawling up ur leg I'm sure everyone would watch that for a laugh as well. Though, I'm still convinced its dramatized and embelished for rating purposes.
anastasios Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 i think its a bit harsh that you guys are saying they should never drive, having had my licence disqualified for 15months ive felt both sides of it, it changes your life, you lose your independance and, i know how hard it is trying to work, go to uni and even build a car without my licence, before all you guys say they should never drive think about what happens and i think its actually a good idea teaching learners because ive seen a hell of a lot of mates and been in the car with them crash because they do not know how to control a vehicle, good on them i hope they get their licences, and remember half the kids here don't have their licences either
Wood§tok Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 (edited) sbox. have you ever driven a ford transit or merc sprinter? they are IMPOSIBLE to see out of if you are reversing and you are looking for oncoming traffic. you generally have a look around the van before you go to spot any obstacles, but thats only handy for things that arent moving. basically you can see behind you fine, but over your left shoulder, (the way you need to look to see if there is anyone coming that you could back into,) you can't see anything!!! you can see straight out the passenger window, but thats generally not where the road is now is it... i used to swing the other way enough before backing into traffic so i could see. most vans have really good turning circles so even at a funny angle i was able to reverse out and stay in my own lane. btw, those little mirrors on the back of some are not for looking down the road. its so we can see how far from the loading dock we are... cheers. ps. anastasios, ive lost my licence twice and still think these people should not be driving. as stated clearly in my previous post lol.
