Emerson Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Hey I just bought an AE71 yesterday and was wondering if there is anyone who knows about upgrades for the 4A-C. I'm only 16 and don't have the money for a 4AGE yet but I would like a little more power as I would like to drift. Quote
Des Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Extractors and a weber carby will make a difference. Quote
Emerson Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 Hey thanks do you know if these upgrades will be legal for me on my P's. Quote
Des Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I don't see why not, It wont make your car lightning fast but it will make it breathe easier. What state are you in ? Quote
Emerson Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 NSW central coast just south of Newcastle Quote
smacko84 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 let us know how you go getting extractors for your ae71 if you take that path. I looked into it a bit back and would of had to get them custom made for like $400 or something stupid... Quote
Jono Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 IMHO don't be in a rush for a hot car. save your money and spend it on a better car later on. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 you can make it faster buy doing these little mods. extractors without an exhause isnt going to do shit, i dought it would make it breath easier until you got a whole exhaust. carb is definately worth it 32/36 webber are a cheap upgrade, adaptor plates are available from ebay but if you buy it from here it will probaly come with one. you can go faster without having more power, get suspension, brakes and some wheels while you are on your P's on a side note, your car will drift as it is in the wet altho I'm not encouraging street drift, it should be don't in a closed environments. do some reading into brake/suspension options available, there is HEAPS of stuff. I'm going to start into a 4ac build but i think that would go against your rules. also if you arnt able to do more of the work it can be very expensive, i know a few people who i can get stuff done on the cheap. if i had to pay someone to build the whole motor it would end up cheaper to buy a 4age... also you could if you get some savings up buy a lsd centre and buy a t-series diff these came in t-18's in 2 axel sizes so keep that in mind when buying an lsd, (need one for drift duh, much better than a welded diff ) Quote

KE70-from-mt-panorama Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Hey thanks do you know if these upgrades will be legal for me on my P's. You cannot drive with Webers while on your P's. it counts as Modifications hence falls under the Prohibited vehicles. unless you want to lose 7 points and a $375 fine i would not recommend it. Extractors are ok. Jake Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 christ, how much does it suck to be a P plater these days.. change a carby in search of better economy :jamie: and ya get fined for it! Quote

Extractors are ok. Sorry i made a mistake. the law is "Any performance enhancing modification is not allowed for P Plate drivers" this means that extractors are out of the question also. christ, how much does it suck to be a P plater these days.. change a carby in search of better economy and ya get fined for it! Yes...Better economy............. :jamie: And yes it sucks to be a P plater nowadays. Jake Quote
doityourself Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 (edited) Why get a weber, just get some slightly larger jets for the standard carby. The old trick for a 4A-c is to put ball bearings in all rubber emissions pipes. Take off the emission return from the exhaust, plug the tube with exhaust putty and put the pipe back on. You could ditch the old airbox and replace it with a Ram flo filter, after all its just an air filter. Oh and the last one is remove the head and have it shaved to bump up compression, you the excuse that you blew a head gasket and head to get the head rebuilt. :jamie::D:D:D Edited April 26, 2007 by doityourself Quote
