Vaster_KE20 Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 As the title says, I have exchanged the old 3k in my ke20 for a 4k i was wondering if anyone could tell me what i need to do now in order to get the paperwork correct with QLD transport.. i.e. have the correct engine numbers on my rego forms etc thanks for any help Quote
pixelated_goat Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 I'm from VIC so i'm not sure of the process in QLD, but just ring them, best way to know exactly what you need to do. Number - 13 23 80 Quote
Clapped out Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 hey there, ive done this a million times, just go down to DOT with the car, ask for the form where you can change the cars "particulars", eg. engine number, colour etc, (not exactly sure the exact name of the form is) fill it out and hand it in, it doesnt cost a thing. Mosus Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 I'm pretty certain you will actually need a Mod Plate. In QLD if a vehicle has had a modification were factory mounting points have been changed or modified, or the vehicle was not manufactured with that modification ie they never were produced with that engine e.t.c you will need a mod plate. so you will need a engineer to look over they transplant, he's signs off on it considering all is right, then he will make up a plate pop rivet it to the car, then you take your paperwork he gives you down to DOT and they do the rest. I'm pretty certain that's what is meant to happen. i've just been threw it all. luckily i work with three qualified engineers so if you want it down give me a yell and i can help you out cheers Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 ^^^^^^^WRONG!!! Phatke30 is correct. Just go in and change your number. In the modifications guide for engineers it states that the same series of engine can be bolted into certain cars. eg. 202 into lj torana ect ect. and requires no mod plate. It also gives the max size for each particular vehicle. Quote
Jono Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 (edited) in NSW you can go 15% larger in engine size without engineers certificate. anyone know if i can get away with a 1600cc motor in my ke20 as they came out with a 1600cc in other markets? Edited April 12, 2007 by JC807 Quote
Felix Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Yep should only take an engine number change at DOT, no mod plate needed. Inform your insurance company of the engine number change. Quote
mattress Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 JC807 beat me to it. I'm quite certain that in QLD you can change to an engine no more than 200cc bigger than the original and no mod plate is required. Just get the form to change the engine number and it should be fine. If in doubt just ask them over the counter... Quote
Felix Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 (edited) It is legal to convert a drum braked ke10 with an 1100cc K engine to a 1300cc 4k, without mod plate in QLD. A 3k to 4k in a ke20 will be fine. Edited April 12, 2007 by Felix Quote
jamesrolla Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 i was told with mine to just go and tell them that ive done a simple engine swap and that to just change the number on the rego papers, still havnt done it yet and nobodys said boo Quote
st.nick Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 My KE36 with a "slightly" worked 3Tc wasn't even mod-plated!! :kiwi: Never got caught tho!! My current KE36 has a 4k, and it was installed before the car was passed for rego inspection. it passed fine, and just has the 4k engine number on the papers..easy peasy Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 I have a 5k in my ke20 and it was mod-plated but not sure if it is needed for a 4k. Quote
Mosus Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Well there you go i stand corrected. I was just going off what i have been told from the guys at work. and my 4K in my KE20 was plated so yea, but if you don't need one sweet as... Quote
Raven Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 My KE25 has a 4K in it, no mod-plate required here but fitting a 5K to it, it will be required. Quote
coln72 Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 In vic, they didnt worry about the 5k in my KE35. Just changed the engine number. Even had to correct them on that as they stuffed it up. Quote
