Button clutch and street do not go together.....granted you may go alright on the street...but traffic is always going to be a bitch. Basically, button clutch for track....heavy duty organic for street

Edit, whoops.....forgot to look who posted the topic. I'm guessin you already knew that.... lol

I had a three puck, ceramic, sprung centred clutch made for the 3K rally engine. It was a very happy medium as the sprung centre gave it a slight amount of slippage and not the real on-off that you get with a full solid button.

Be warned, your clutch may be doing you a few favours at the moment. Going to a button puts ALOT more stress on the drivetrain. Axles and diffs may/will suffer.

Mine was built by Nicks Performance Clutch in Archerfield, QLD.

When I bought the RPM heavy duty one, it had on the side of this box that they were avaiable with a couple of different clutch plate options including normal organic, Ceramic IIRC and a buttom plate. I've still got the box at home though so I'll have a look and see if maybe there is even any part numbers for them. I payed $125 trade price for mine (just heavy duty organic) from REPCO.

As for driving with them, for an experience driver like yourself it will be no problem on the street. I've got a heavy duty button in my mazda and that quite exceptable to even do blocks in!!! :fuzz: considering the amount that it get driven on the street, then go for it...........

.............however, as Redwarf said say good by k40!!! we both seem to be now having some serious box issues, so do you wanna make it any worse!!! Maybe you need to seriously consider the K-T thing and get a decent brass button for that,....if you can find 1!! :D

We run a button ceramic / organic combo similar to the picture. Made by Extreme ctutches in adelaide. The one shown is from my 3T engine but the 5K looks the same but smaller.

Also have the K-T bell housing and use the T50 box in the car. Great match for the 5K and the low ratio gear set we run.

Maybe its more of increasing the spring pressure on your clutch plate. Usually they ask you power and torque and then they make you the correct part for what you are running.

Just a thought.

Thanks for that ill check it out, haven't got a spare K-T bellhousing have ya.

I'm running 159 Kw and 285 Nm of torque at the moment so it needs to be a good one.

I asked my dad if he had any more in the shed but it was not to be. He said they stem from a model of toyota van / wagon that was imported to Qld that for some reason on the production line they had a short supply gearboxes and needed to keep up with production so they used the T50 box in the short term.

Its one of those things were you searcth the wrecker yards and look at certain models that should have a k series box but you find a T50 in it.

Just got to keep on looking.

Matt Easy fix. Put in a W series box.....

Ok I know a W series box will fit into a KE70 no mods but KE10 might have issues.

And yes a K to W gear box bell housing DOES yes DOES exist and shall we say readily. In the Toyota EPC (electronic parts catalog) the new van Toyota makes with the 7K-E in JDM land and that van gets shipped here has a W series box in it BUT all they do is change the bell housing as that same van has a few different motors it can come with. SO start hitting the van wreckers and get that bell housing and a W box. Also as far as I know the 7K-E variant of that van is still made so should be easy to get one.

I had a hard drive crash so don't have the space to reinstall the Toyota EPC but if some one else has the EPC and wants to do a search go for it. As I might be a while getting it back on my system.

Cheers

P.S. Not to hijack a thread but look what my 3K did matt and Si. And just to think the 3K was stock..lol But mm it was my spare an old clutch to cover for a week till I got my new one in so mmm should of been expected to slip but not this..lol Oh just if you can't see it in the picture the center metal section let go of the fiber parts so the fiber parts jammed on the flywheel and they center didn't grip so it spun and the car didn't move :) Happened at a major intersection to not cool ;)
