Des Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Its called vvt (Variable Valve Timing). Ive seen a sc14 on a 3.8 commodore engine so it would suit a silver top. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Use an SC14. Here are some examples of what the SC14 can do..lol http://www.rodshop.com.au/superchargers.htm Also look hard enough you can get a SC14 for under $100 so be patient you'll get your blower. Cameron Quote
Sam_Q Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Yes my early 20v uses a similar thing to VTEC, switching the camshaft duration or overlap(?) i forget the rpm.. Id like to look into the adjustable runner idea... thanks And yea i might see how much i can pick up a SC14.. well not quite, although the 20V has variable cam timing but it is only on the intake and is just a 2 position gear for 2 cam angles. VTEC on the other hand has a completely different set of lobes for different durations and lift. One thing no one has mentioned is using a 7A bottom end, if good low down power is wanted then that would be a good bet. I would be willing to bet I could make a 20V have awesome low down power, heres what I would do: - 7A bottom end - higher compression - hotwire air flow meter - 40cm long trumpets - cams with around a 220 degree duration? - extractors with 1 meter long & 1.25 inch diameter primaries and 50cm secondaries with a 1.5inch diameter - aftermarket ecu then if a huge amount of low down power was wanted then a ball bearing turbo intended for a 1.3L engine, I belive there is one model that small. Something that would make it boost up by 2500revs or something. It would want an intercooler with a small volume and a good dump pipe though, none of those crap designed shiny ones. Quote
beerhead Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 A 20V GZE is a great idea, but you're gonna need a custom intake as the stock one will blow its seals. The SC14 is gonna be hard to squeeze under the quads too, as there won't be as much room in a FWD setup. You won't find a standard ecu that will get a decent tune, an adaptronic ecu will let you do your vaccum trigger on the S/C. Download the ECU interigator off if you want to see the features- adaptronic, you'll be amazed at what it can do. 8 Aux in and 8 aux out and a 30x30 tuning map :kiwi: I don't know anyone with a 4AGZE that converted to turbo that wasn't over the moon with the performance gains. Eating clutch's for dinner is the easiest way to get some bite off the line with such a setup. Before you think about such an expensive project you need to ask yourself, am I in fantasy land where I wish I could make my 4A pull like a V8 off the line? I know I am, but I know it's a pipe dream, that's why I'm gonna play with an atmo 20V for a while. Have you ever been in an overpowered FWD car ... coffin ? Throttle based lane changing aint cool. AE25 Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 i say DO IT the std 4agze intake manifold is definately a restriction. we have an ae86 in NZ that runs high 13sec 1/4's with an s/c. it is now a silvertop 20v and supercharged, originally built as a drifter by tim aka tiny. pretty sure it still has stock 20v internals running 10psi. he's made custom inlet and V-mount intercooler etc. its awesome.. a supercharger running out of puff? how does that work.. the s/c is belt driven and is an air pump.. the higher you rev it, the more it pumps. free up the other restrictions on the inlet/exhaust and you'll be happy as. don't try run boost on a stock 20v ecu and internals.. it'll be short lived. his car specs here http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=54834 Quote
spraycanmansam Posted May 30, 2007 Author Report Posted May 30, 2007 Whoa its been a while since I checked back!! Thanks for all the replys guys .. but guess what.. I seem to have lost motivation and now the engine is up for sale. I'm moving on to my new project, which I've been waiting a long time for the opportunity to do and need the funds! :sob: Check it out in the For Sale section if your interested. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=13411 I am in need of an SC12 again tho as the one I had.. well I no longer have it anymore! :hmm: Sooo anyone with a good SC12 for around $200 PM me or email me at [email protected], preferably email. Cheers guys Quote
ninoavent Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Since you're getting custom pistons already, run higher compression. Then add a pulley kit for the charger. That should be more than enough for your 20v. Don't run 7A block, it wont be as happy in high rpm's. The crank design and will not work well with the high rpm's needed by a 4tb 20v head. Good luck. AE25 Posted June 30, 2007 Report Posted June 30, 2007 bazda's 7agte 20v... 10sec fwd ae92! sorry ninoavent but bollocks to anyone saying 7a block and crank are crap.. that may apply to high revving n/a engines only  Quote
