Bigger Is Better Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 Hi guys just reading up on all the different ways to lower the rear of my car and was just wondering i anyone has just inverted the top leaf and left the rest the same, instead of getting the eyes inverted. What did the car handle like and how much did it lower it. josh Quote
anastasios Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 yea this would be interesting to know, ive flipped my whole leaf pack and it sits hard on the bumpstops Quote
flat out Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 i made a custom "drifto" leaf pack, what i did was buy too packs of springs from the wreckers and cut all the holder things off and took them all apart, then i cut the eyes off the main carryer springs (the longest ones) and put them under the old main ones with all the other 3 original ones the same way they came, then i fliped the remaining 3 and it makes it sit nice, (nearly under the guards) looks duight sexy i think, eliminates tramp and makes it damn hard btw its not how it is in my dp ( that has 1.5 lowering blocks in it aswell) Quote
Jono Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 my 20 has 33 years of sag, looks nice and low. it does the trick and someone has no axle tramp. Quote
anastasios Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 hey flat out how stiff was it in comparison to say a 6kg spring? also do you have suspension travel with the current setup? Quote
pozman Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 (edited) yeah i have, we flipped the main leaf then added another second spring, has quite good, not as good as reset pack but heaps better than standard and crap loads better than normal leaf flipping. you don't get the saggy softnes of the flipped leafs, if you going to go down the flipped road, id say go this way :P also it lowered the car a fair bit, but not too far there was still a bit of travel. the spring rate goes up aswell, fair bit stiffer Edited March 16, 2007 by pozman Quote
flat out Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 i have probably 1inch at the most if i pust on it, thats wist gab shocks and polly bushes. i wouldnt have a clue about 6kg springs as i don't have a coil sprung can nor have i felt one running 6kg springs cheers casey Quote
doityourself Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Do want to hijack, but can I use a use a 3 main leaves ( 2 with eye cut off), and a no. 3? I am after less progressive rate and more solid state leaves. Quote
Jono Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 (edited) i like soft ass. Edited March 17, 2007 by JC807 Quote
anastasios Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 hey doityourself what do you mean by less progressive rate and more solid state Quote
Felix Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 (edited) I like stock rear springs, with stiffer shocks. Allows you to put the power down a lot more through corners with out worrying about the rear end skipping out, especially on bumpy roads. Way less skatey in the wet too. You can also carry a load as well without sitting on the bumpstops. Low stiff suspension is all fine and good on perfectly smooth roads or on the track. Out on twisty bumpy roads extra suspension compliance helps a lot. Guess it depends on how you drive, the roads you drive on and how important "the look" is to you. coln72 Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I agree Felix. Ive actually softened the rear leaves to get extra bite on the dirt. Quote
doityourself Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 hey doityourself what do you mean by less progressive rate and more solid state Leaf springs are a progressive spring rate, hence the reason the leaves are different lengths. I want a constant spring rate, hoping by using 3 main leafs (2 with loops cut off) and one no.3 leaf. Quote
