LittleRedSpirit Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Cars looking very Decent, Ryan. can't wait to see it with turbo 3s power. Yours is an 86 half cage just bolted into the keto, is it not? I'm thinking I need one. Actually bought one on Ebay and couldn't get the seller to contact me or answer his phone. Id expect it made a pretty decent difference to the feel of the car? Definately will catch up when I'm up the coast next. Have you considered Coming on the 'best of all' cruise which Jip is organising? Ill get you the info... Quote
driftke70 Posted May 12, 2008 Author Report Posted May 12, 2008 havnt heard of the cruise, but if its driving ill come. is an 86 cage, ill be either adding onto or building a complete newy from scratch, ive got many metres of chrome olly and a pipe bender sitting in the garage mocking me. roo, hahaha Quote
driftke70 Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 new radiator for my water to air cooler courtesy of pwr. Quote
beerhead Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Sweet, those Gen3's boost so early in stock form, will definitely keep you up with the big boys for speed and wheelspin. What gearbox you thinking of running? If you haven't heard, you can get an R153 housing from a 4x4 prado 5VZ to use a supra R154 if you wanted something stronger than a W58. Quote
driftke70 Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 14's spin before gear box's break Quote
driftke70 Posted June 24, 2008 Author Report Posted June 24, 2008 bit of an update have a shed to work on my car now.. so its moving at a nice rate now d dropped a f series to me today which will be recieving a tomei 2 way for an altezza/supra, in the coming weeks, new mounts and most likely rear coil over conversion. got all my tubing for my roll cage, my brother and i are going halfs on a new tube bender and getting rid of the speedwerx one that works on a vertical plane with a bottle jack in exchange for one that works on a horizontal plane and is hydraulic, and you can set degrees better and stuff, both give un crimped or kinked bends, ones just way easier to use for large things such as main hoops in roll cages. So that shall be knocked up probably before i even start putting the engine in. Have played around almost got cross member sorted, might be able to work with the original sump more than i had planned Water to air cooler will be going where the batter WAS, which will now be behind the passenger seat in a nice little ally box. Drawn up a design for an inlet mani that will be made in the coming weeks. Similar to beau yates's getup 9's are all polished to a mirror finished and centers out awaiting paint, just gotta get some etch primer, got new nuts for the centers so they will looks pretty spiff when all together. With new f series diff which is a smidge wider than t, plus 35mm oversize bolt ons, the 9's will have some of the most uber fitment. Front will be flared by who ever wants to raise their hand for cash, when acompanied with a 5mm slip on front rear track will be perfecto. Even with rona arms, which are still being replaced by rose jointed adjustable jobies. But all in all on track for estimated build time...... for now, dooo dooooooo dooo touch wood Quote
driftke70 Posted July 25, 2008 Author Report Posted July 25, 2008 rear guards now accomodate a 14x9 - 30 (cheers to dimitri) f series diff prepped for new mounts boot well cut out to accept fuel cell etc cage designed, molly ordered, thatll be happening next week, 10 pointish going from strut towers etc, buckets mounted on top of. paint will be happening after that, all rolling pretty smoothly. driftke70 Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 new bender has arrived, cage shall be knocked up soon Quote
driftke70 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 roll cage pretty much done woo Quote
driftke70 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 still a few things left, got to do the rear, go to either the shock mounts or plate the spring perch or what ever, ill see what happens, i don't mind hole sawing the sheet on the side of the rear seat brace to get the tube through to the rear shocks, ill be making some bars to the front shock mounts too, i still need to chip the tacs off the plate drop the cage through and do the final welds around the top and then lift it back up and weld the base plates in completely. beerhead Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Looking good dude. What's the plans for the oiling drama's of the 3S once uprighted? You going to put in an external oil drain and keep the wet sump? There's a trick with a repositioned timing belt tensioner that will give you access to a welsh plug that drains straight to the sump. Then you put an oil line from the front drivers side of the head straight to that port. Works quite well I've heard. Oiling is the only achillies heel of the 3S motor in RWD esp one that'll be held flat chat on a drift track. Not too many RWD 3S builds around, bunch of pussies all put datsun motors in cause its easy :sob: Quote
driftke70 Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 the gen 2 has a few issues with oiling, it has a low pressure oil pump, the 3rd gen has a high pressure oil pump, combined with a correctly fitted and modified sump, ie beams 3s sump modified a little with modified pickup, or the standard sump modified with a deeper well and some nice well placed baffles and your sweet, keep the level a bit fuller than normal and its fine. ive heard of a few that have been nothing but faultless, ive also heard of people who have spent a long time mucking around and had huge dramas. people who use them in race applications usually touch more than they should and are reluctant to admit faults they have made. once i have the engine at my house, its in my dads factory at the moment, but when i get a good chance to pull it down and line it up ill start to make more researched decisions re sump setups. People do rush to put the sr in, but the gen 3 3s, makes more power, more torque lower, comes with forged internals, doesnt have a screwed top end makes more power more easily, can handle more boost, lighter, only real downsides are the pain of spinning it ew to ns, and its lack of rwd aftermarket support for stuff like manifolds etc. but I'm not into inter species blood transfusions Quote
