pixelated_goat Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) EDIT: After posting this late the other night, I realised that I've been reading these forums for quite some time now, but I don't think I've officially introduced myself because I don't post all that much..... I'm Shane, I live on the Mornington Peninsula in VIC, I purchased a KE55 approx 1 year ago for motorkhanas etc, and joined these forums. I had it on the road for a little while, but I never really saw a future for the car. (Loved my car a lot, but I prefer the earlier generation corollas) So buying this KE20 is a dream come true for me, and the KE55 will most likely be for sale soon. I attended the VIC Australia Day Long Weekend Great Ocean Rd Cruise (try saying THAT three times fast) organised by 'TheNobbler' this year, and I'm looking forward to many more. :P My original post: Yep, I am now the proud owner of a KE20 - I have always loved this generation but being so rare now, i knew my chances were pretty slim of owning one. But last night, thanks to a stroke of luck browsing the trading post, and many thanks to pozman for driving me the 4 hour round trip through Melbourne to Geelong, with my beast strapped to a car trailer during long weekend traffic ;) - it's now safe and sound in my garage. I havent had a chance to get any pics just yet, I've been flat out today getting my garage cleaned up and sorted out - hopefully i'll get some pictures tomorrow to post up. The first thing to tackle is the rust, not too bad, most is just surface, but a few awkward spots will prove a bit of work but we all love a challenge. :y: -Shane. pixelated_goat Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 Ok, today I managed to get some pics, they are just quick snaps to get the idea - body is very straight, minor dings on LHS around the join of the door, apart from that rust is the area that needs most work on this car. When i start work on the rust i will post pics of the affected areas. Aim for the moment is to strip it to a shell, and get it right from the start. Started work for a couple of hours tonight, but spent most of the day stripping my KE55 of all its goodies, that will be going soon.... such a shame, but I only have room/money to support one car. Anyway, enjoy the pics! ;) Quote
webers4x48 Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) Nice find. I'm jealous. Can't wait to see it cruizin. If ya need a hand, don't be shy to ask me n stu. I've had 4 of this model (I'd love to have a 5th if I can't find a Ke15/17), so I know a thing or 2 about em. They're easy to work on anyway. That's why I love em. pixelated_goat Posted March 14, 2007 Author Report Posted March 14, 2007 Thanks Lee, yeah I'm very stoked about it, the high has been running all week - basically stripped the interior Tuesday evening, i'll be taking pics as I go, more work on Sat if I get time. Thanks for the offer, no doubt I'll need a hand down the track so I appreciate it - good to know someone thats done it before!! :D Quote
pixelated_goat Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Ok managed to get most of the interior stripped, only dash to go - also got some pics of the worst spots of rust (not pretty) - got time off next week so should be able to get more done then: Quote
JiP Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 WoW, She's looking Pretty good considdering her age. Great find. I've seen KE55/70's with worse rust than what this one has. Quote
pixelated_goat Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 Exactly, panels are still very straight - trying to track down some new front guards in VIC as they're rusted out as you can see - but apart from that, it's in great condition - just need to get the groundwork right now so it stays that way for ANOTHER 30 years :D Quote
pixelated_goat Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 I'd like to go down the 4A road, until i have the money it'll be a 4k with 3k (bigport?) head, extractors, webers (big enough to bolt onto the 4A when it comes along) - not sure how far my cashola will stretch getting this body done first!
