Clown Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Whats everyone running, what would you guys reccomend? I'm looking at the Mongoose M60s Car Alarm installed for around ~$300, oppinions? Quote
Raven Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Cheetah Alarm systems are fairly decent too. Autobarn here in Adelaide installed them but I don't know of a price off the top of my head. Quote
love ke70 Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 theyre all the same basically i bought an ebay one for the first ke70 i bought one from autobarn for the 1g ke70. both came with the exact same instructions, exact same connections, slightly different box. theyre all pretty good these days imo... LittleRedSpirit Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 How effective are they? Personally ive never even flinched when one has gone off, unless I'm standing next to it. Have you guys had any occasions when theyve worked well for you? Quote
Jono Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) i don't really think they will ever stop pro theives. if someone really wants your car that badly, they will bring a car trailer and some tuff looking dudes. that said, an alarm might stop someone looking for a quick joyride or to steal your change. i bought mine from Tweakit at mona vale, it has remote start, central locking, immobilser, in-built turbo timer, sms tracking optional add-on and instructions in Chinglish: about $220-$250. i had to install it myself. if you are getting it to reduce insurance premium check its on the list of approved alarms. Good advice, chinglish, nice! ;) Anyhow, i guess the ones that sms you would be good, f@$k the others though. Just keep you up all night with false alarms. You could just hide a couple of kill switches and the car would never start... Quote
butty Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 My sx seca has got a stinger alarm system on it don't know how old it is because it was there when i bought it. But the central locking is definitly great. On another note sometimes when i'm drivin around my exhaust sets other peoples car alarms off. he he. Quote
BreakDave - GT Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 We fit mainly Cyclops alarms made by dynamco in aus... good thing about em is you can get parts for em like the keypads etc if ya lose em and they come with all the usual good stuff... black wiring, central locking outputs, boot release, glass break sensors etc etc Quote
JiP Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 I got myself an M80S (Mongoose 80 Series). I got it with central locking on all four doors and glad i did. Someone tried to steal my car the week after i had it put in, I was at work and heard the alarm go off, as i park infront of our only carpark camera i could see a guy running from my car. This saved me alot of money and bus trips ;). I'm glad i got it and will do the same for my hardtop. For such an old car my opinion is to spend as much as you like depending on how serious you are about the car. I bought the best one from that brand which has a three point immobiliser and can get upgrades. I myself don't feel that full comp insurance is worth the money when the payout wouldn't be much. The only thing you need is just third party fire and theft. In the event of an accident, if your at fault, they will pay for the others car and you just have to pay for your own. an alarm might stop someone looking for a quick joyride or to steal your change. Wood§tok Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) the alarm in your car is not suposed to make your car 'steal proof' it simply deters the opertunistic little wankers that think your commodore is fulli sicker than another commodore they couldnt break into. why youd own a commodore in the first place is beyond me. seriously though, at least a 2 point immobiliser and a microwave sensor and the goodies in your car will be well protected. another thing NOT to do is put the an alarm brand sticker on your car. if you have to put a sticker on it, make sure it is not the same as the brand of alarm you actually have. cheers. JiP Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Shocking door handles would be cool. ;) Alarms with rolling frequencies and black wiring are good too. Quote
love ke70 Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 i hated the black wiring rubbish. such a head f@$k to install haha... black wire and a tab on it "red" wtf, no its f@$king black... i was swearing and cursing the cheap shits when i installed "couldnt afford coloured wires....cheap sods...way to make my life difficult...." now it makes sense haha, my bad Quote
MYSTIK[RL] Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) Cheetah Alarm systems are fairly decent too. Autobarn here in Adelaide installed them but I don't know of a price off the top of my head. Car Toys start @ $190~ for the most basic cheetah system and the price goes up from there. and the good thing bout cheetah is the lifetime warranty and the fact it can be swapped from car your old to your car if you happen to upgrade only downside is the yearly service if u want to keep the lifetime warranty Edited March 12, 2007 by MYSTIK Quote
Kebin[RL] Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Alarms are all the same! The quality of an alarm comes down to the installation.. I have used ebay alarms in all my cars and haven't had a single problem with any of them. From the simple $30 alarm to the all out pager alarm i have they have all been sweet. The best type of alarm i recommend are pager type alarms. Mine hasn't let me down yet even at work when the guys play 'smack my window' ;) Quote
Clown Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) Yeah, the reason i want the alarm is to/for A: Insurance with the conversion B: Remote central locking C: stop pricks stealing the car Gonna get bianca to check around in adelaide when she can for prices and I'm gonna check around here and decide what way to go. I wont touch a certin well known place starting with "A" as they stuffed up biancas alarm on her old mr2, so much so that while it was primed i could open the car doors, get in and drive off, that and they refused to remove it for ages. :D *edit* Wont be putting alarm sticker on the car, thats just telling people how to steal your car. Although for warrenty some companies make you display a sticker?? the alarm in your car is not suposed to make your car 'steal proof' it simply deters the opertunistic little wankers that think your commodore is fulli sicker than another commodore they couldnt break into. why youd own a commodore in the first place is beyond me. seriously though, at least a 2 point immobiliser and a microwave sensor and the goodies in your car will be well protected. another thing NOT to do is put the an alarm brand sticker on your car. if you have to put a sticker on it, make sure it is not the same as the brand of alarm you actually have. cheers.
