YKE 20T Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 (edited) Hey all this is my puple baby. ca18 det powered ke20 coupe. the car is running at the moment was driving but is just about to go off the road for a r31 skyline brogwarner diff conversion, going to run 3.9 gears and a mini spool. the car has race seats, 15inch simmons usues the 180sx dash with lots of autometer gauges. big pwr cooler still uses the ke20 radiator with the 180 thermo fan, going to uprgrade but works well at the moment. saving money and looking into brake upgrades. will keep you posted on further devolpoments. Jono Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 nice car! do you have to shorten both sides of the r31 diff? who is doing the minispool? i thought you could get a ford LSD to go in the diff, but then i've read they don't last very long. love the wheels! not a big fan of the dash and gauges but i'm more of a sleeper fan. jamesrolla Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 that car looks neat as, I'm the same as jc, don't go much on the dash arrangment but the rest of the car is nice as, woulda look so nice with the engine bay and inside painted that colour, real top looking car though james Quote
YKE 20T Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 because the ke20 is so small it is neccesary to shorten both sides. some other cars you don't have to due to the uneven axle arraingment of that particular borgwarner. the advantage of the 180 intruments is all the wiring is still there from the halfcut so you don't have to stuff around with anythin just put them in and as far as the computer knows its still in an 180sx. i`m gettin the diff done at M&A engineering in canberra who specilize in diff conversions and any sort of automotive fabrication/engineering. i havent heard about the ford lsd but i was led to believe that the lsd centre was a relative of the borgwarner vl, i may be wrong lol. for the extra money i didnt see the piont of gettin an lsd because in an 820kg car a mini spool will last longer and due to the extra power and low weight and it wont twist the axles as it wont recieve much load before it breaks traction; yay ;). the paint is just a backyard job we did for the time being looks good in the sunlight as its got a bit of mettalic flake through it but when i have the cash and get the front brakes sorted i would like to strip the car back to metal and give it a good quality paint job. JiP Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 (edited) Hot looking ride you have there. In a distant way the front end looks like a Mustang with the intercooler the way it is and the lights recessed in, ...distant tho. (Pic 2) Edited February 7, 2007 by JiP_01 Quote
Bender Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 the car looks good mate, do u find the car a bit laggy with that cooler, its massive! when do u come on boost? The mini spool is the way to go, there predictable when drifting and the lsd for borgwarners last for about 5 good skids before u starts going to one wheel and a mini spool costs less than it does to get a lsd tightened up. YKE 20T Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Posted February 12, 2007 tell me about it mini spools are 100% fun. the car isnt laggy at all, hits boost about 3000rpm the inlet path is fairly direct and not very long compared to say a silvia or skyline and with the bigger cooler piping it makes up for the cooler. Creepy, theres a ke20 with ca18det near me i was having a look at the other day, and its the same colour. I'm planning on doing the same thing with the s13 dash cluster, but hopefully a bit cleaner (no offense). I'm going to use a fresh piece of sheet for the dash face, and work from there. Got any pics of the gearbox xmember at all? Quote
Jono Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 there was a factory purple colour which is pretty close to this one but it wasn't metallic. Quote
YKE 20T Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 All right had to dig this post up has been a while since I've achieved anything in regards to the car. I blame my ex for that lol. basically I've bought some goodies for it compromising: Hoppers Stoppers 285mm twin piston brake kit. All new suspension bushes, ball joints tie rods, springs shocks and K Mac adjustable strut tops. I pretty much replaced every moving part and bush in the front end, then did the brake kit. been working on it gradually, has taken about 3 months but it was back together and rolling this morning. Quite proud of my handy work lol. Quote
YKE 20T Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 here are the photos of the build. Quote
