Craig_ae8670 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 (edited) Hey guys, I will be building up a 4AGE running twin carbs for something different and also for the fact that i can get the carbs cheaper then a new inlet manifold with the acc.. Now my question is does anyone now what dizzy to run with this?? I tried searching all the forums ie toymods, rollaclub, 86dc... Or even better does anyone know of a stand alone ECU that only controls the spark and not the EFI??? Any help would be good Thanks in advance Craig Edit: I was think of using the stock ECU to control the spark and advance but i didnt know if this would work. So i would wire it up to just the dizzy and not any fuel injectors. Someone know if this will work?? Edited January 24, 2007 by Craig_ae8670 Quote

Craig_ae8670 Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks boys but i need some sort of advance. Its going to be daliy driven. Quote
Trev Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks boys but i need some sort of advance. Its going to be daliy driven. It is understandable but it should still be fine: Bill Sherwood (crazy damn Australian) has his AE 86 Sprinter running a fuel only aftermarket ECU EFI system. His stock distributor is controlled by Bosch ignition module part no 249-9-222-067-016. It does not allow advance, but this may not be a real issue for you if you are track racing etc. Bill's car is street driven and works OK. Quote
pozman Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 MSD, they have lots of crazy ignition parts, have a look at a rocket book/website Quote
Trev Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Will a 4A-C electronic dizzy fit? I beleive the shaft is a different size, If it did fit everyone would resort to 1 instead of trying to mod another. Quote
NoPsi Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 My 4agc with twin webers used to run a modified serIII bluebird dizzy from memory. It was a hall effect setup, recurved to suit the 4a and modified to fit. Unfortunately that's all I know about it because it came on the car. Quote
foc64 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I've herd that you can use the distributor from a Mitsubishi Astron motor (Sigmas, Scorpions and possibly Magnas?) but you will need to swap the drive gear over (use the gear from the original 4age distributor). This set up will give you and electronic distributor with vacuum advance for a good price. I've been lead to believe that the advance curve on these distributors is fairly close to what you need as well, any one come across this set up before? Chris Quote
love ke70 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 use stock efi dizzy and get a mallory hyfire VI. if not most ecus can deal with not running injectors. other problem is where are you gonna run vacuum line from on twin carbies to signal whatever ecu you are using? Quote
Nat-ae71 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I'm doing something similar with my ae71, I'm going to use an MSD 6al, I was reading that it gives you a crude type of advance if you swap the polarity over? If that makes sense. There is a controller you can purchase for it as well that allows advance, the 6al alone is worth about $400 - $500 from memory (ebay ftw), dunno what the controller is called/worth. What size carbs are you going to run? I'm going to use Dellorto dhla40's on a redline manifold. whether or not its cheaper than efi hinges on whether you can tune it yourself and how much you pay for the carbs Quote
Craig_ae8670 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Report Posted January 25, 2007 Ive got the choice of twin solex or dellortos both 40's. Can get either one for anout $100 for the pair and can get a HKS twin carb manifold for about another $100 with linkage kit. I have been talking with my boss at work today (I'm an apprentice mechanic) and he thinks there might be a modual that you can wire up to the stock dizzy and use a map senor to give it then advance. Works the same way as the XF falcons do on the carb'd modles. I need the advance as i will be running some sort of cams. Hence the reason why it will be cheaper. I don't wanna have to spend $2000 on an aftermarket ECU i'd perfer to spend that on my 86. The manga dizzy's do work but still don't give any advance as you have to swap the internals over to the 4AGE dizzy. I was told about that one by a guy that ran twin 45 webers on a 20v. Ill let you guys know how the XF falcon style goes after i have done some more research on it. Ill will be ringing up are EFI parts people through work and they will be able to give me some ideas. Cheers Craig PS: Raven i was going to steal a 4AC dizzy from u-steal-it and see if it fits Quote
Craig_ae8670 Posted January 25, 2007 Author Report Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) Ok i have found a guy on 86dc that is selling twin webers with a dizzy. He reacons its a sigma dizzy. I thought that the internals had to be swapped but going by the picture it looks like a stock sigma one. I might head down to u-steal-it tomorrow and see what i can find out. EDIT: Hands off people the dizzy is mine if hes seperating....... Edited January 25, 2007 by Craig_ae8670 Quote
Jono Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 i have a stock 4age 100kw distributor if you need one. Quote
