Trufauru Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Well the other day, the logos in my mothers car were falling and before someone took them i remove from the car, then i compare to the ones that i took from my own car (an 81 corolla) and here there are.... Famous COROLLA And the almost famous TOYOTA well there they are, in your hand the old ones have that vintage look and feel that makes them great, they feel more hand made than the new ones, the new ones feel like massive made and not so "artesanal" Quote
deri2k3 Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 the older ones looks better, oh yeah and i really like the corolla logo in the steering wheel on my old ke30, it's a C with 3 stars above it. looks great! :) Quote
st.nick Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 (edited) Flowers... Not stars, I believe. :) As the "Corolla" is part of a flower, I reckon the 'stars' are actually flowers. Edited January 25, 2007 by st.nick Quote
rolla83 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Correct, expecially on the front grill of the old KE30 range. My Ke35 has the flower type on the front. Quote
deri2k3 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 oops.. how stupid i am.. :D i thought they were stars as they got 5 spokes.. haha.. sorry about that! still love them though! Quote
st.nick Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Is all good my friend... No harm done!! Just don't brag about your super-tough 'rollas name coming from part of a flower!! hahaha Quote
nickyboy Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 my 82 got XXX C on the steering wheel its sick cuz I'm straight edge lol Quote
OniBerserker Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 doesnt corolla mean crown of flowers? I'm sure i read that somewhere Quote
Nitephyre Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Affirmative Corolla, Corona are both flower parts.. manly eh :D Quote
st.nick Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Covered this once before but... The Corolla Sportivo (the one like the Bates group NP car. The one that was released with a ZZ engine and 6speed), had the marketing slogan "Corolla by name, not by nature..." Hence, flowery name, but not that flowery!! Quote
towe001 Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Corona - noun - Latin 1. a coloured circle of light seen round the sun or moon, caused by the diffraction of light by water drops in the earth's atmosphere. 2. the outer part of the sun's atmosphere, seen as a shining circle around the sun during an eclipse. 3. a crownlike part on the inner side of a corolla, as in the narcissus. 4. a discharge often visible at the surface of a conductor. corolla - noun - Latin the petals of a flower collectively. And there you have it - within every corolla is a corona Maybe Toyoda should patented the vase and flower on the dash instead of VW and its 'new' beetle. Quote
7shades Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 I'm stuck on number 4... "discharge" I love that word :D Quote
Mr Hardware Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 corolla = crown of a flower corona = crown of a star camry = kammuri (crown in japanese) crown = crown toyota seems to like the crown theme. Quote
JiP Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) I wonder why they changed?? Like they've scrapped the "C"'s, you have cars like Yarris & Aurion now and i doubt that it'll be long till the Corolla will go. Like if the "Sales" don't increase due to the crappy styling, they may see it to be better to start fresh like Nissin did with its UGLY Pulsar replacement. Edited January 29, 2007 by JiP_01 Quote
st.nick Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 New breed of marketing guru seems to believe that space-aged sounding names (oh yeah, coz Yaris sounds well space-aged...) will sell more cars!! Nissan scrapped Pulsar for Tiida Toyota scrapped Corolla for Auris Ford uk scrapped the legendary Escort name for Focus (or as we call it, Ford f@$k-arse) Whats wrong with these people!! I'd stick with tradition if it was my decision... And whilst on that subject. Whats with the local release ZZ Corollas (ie current shape), getting a luxury pack and being called Levins!! Whoever decided that would be a good idea needs to be slapped!! If anything, the "Sportivo" Corollas should have been called Levins. Levin Corollas were the 'top-of-the-heap' performance version in Japan... Not some poofed-up hairdresser's car with extra-cushy seats, crappy alloy wheels and colour coded bumpers!!! 'Levin' should= Pumped guards, forced induction, factory extractors/sports system, wider wheels, bigger brakes... Hot hatch!! Quote
