I am looking into byeing a 7k for my KE30

I have read through a couple of threads on 7k's and have not found too much information about HOW to modify the sump.

Another thing is, most people say that you CAN NOT fit any other sump on (from other k moters), but them you get some people that say "i have a 3k sump un my 7k" WTF is it possible or not? if so, what do you need to modify the 3k sump?

If i do end up byeing one is there anyone in adelaide willing to help me out?

Cheers

I have found one that is cheap ish.

But it has no manifold and engine mounts.

As i have said before people have different opinions on what will fit.

So can i use standard 'k' mounts?

And by my understanding the inlet manifold is the same as other 'k' except the 7ke is different. is this true?

You can use your existing mounts no probs there. I have said this numerous times you CANNOT use any other sump other than a 7k one. What details do you need to modify the sump? Trial fit the motor and see where it wont clear (midway drivers sideish) mark this area out, Then cut this out and get someone who can weld to weld in a modified (pretty much inverted) section. If the motor you a buying doesn't have an inlet manifold then there is no carby and a 3k carby will be inadequate for a 7k. So you will either have to go aftermarket manifold (eg redline) to adapt a weber or the sort or track an original 7k-c manifold and carby down.

Hope this helps.

you have to fit the 7k engine mounts (rubber mount, not the cross member mount) as the 7k mounts are thinner to compensate for the wider block. If need be i MIGHT be able to get it welded, no promises tho.

hmm theres a few interesting points that a few of you have noted, I'm very intersted in this subject as I'm pretty set on doing this convertion in my wagon.

just checking up that as 78_7kRolla was saying about modifying for the sump, so basically this is the only modification you had to make...? and your basically just saying that it wouldnt sit on the engine mounts as the sump would hit the iner part of the engine bay somewhere? so you mark where it hits and just cut it out and then weld up like a indented L shaped kinda thing hey???

does anyone have any pics of a 7k convertion into ke1X 2X 3X?? or even just some pics of the mods they had to make stuff like that.?

also is this convertion legal for a ke26? would i beable to get it engineered easy?

much appreciated.

cheers, haydn.

I think if someone is up to it, make a thorough '7k conversion" write up, with pics etc.

I guess this will save most of the repetitive questions that keep poping up.

you need an engineers report for a 7k into a corolla.

the laws state that the replacement motor must not be more that 20% more capacity than standard

if it exceeds 20% an engineers report is needed. on this law alone a 7k needs an engineers report.

I assume your 30 came with a 3k @ 1200cc now a 7k has 1800cc. you do the math and its another 50% bigger than the original.

The mate of mine who built the ke25 with the 7KT which was talked about on here said to me that he needed things like brake upgrades etc.

He went the sly way and crafted a 5K eng # on the block.

and the sump is the only thing that prevents it slotting straight in as long as you have the 7K rubber mounts.

Any engine conversion is legal, engineered or not.......until they catch you

EDIT: now thinking about it if the orginal is say a 1200 and a 5k is 1500 its a 300cc or 25% difference and that would make it illegal. I might have to double check this.

No you don't, i used standard 3k mounts. Have you done this conversion yourself as you seem to be quite the expert?
