ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 hey people...i am all the way from trinidad,West Indies and i think this site is EXACTLY what i am lookin for since i got a CA18de in a KE70 corolla......well just to say i got a CA18DE auto but I'm looking to do a next engine conversion....from where i am the SR20DE(T)/VE and parts are easily available so I'm lookin to do an SR20DE or 4AG 20V (which are harder to source) but i am really torn as to which i should swap...i would like an outside option on this.....thanks guys...... :hmm: Quote
Sam_Q Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 hey welcome to the forum, I have done a 20v conversion and I have the details in my worklog if your interested. There would also be heaps of other mods you could apply to your car on it: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=9903 also my 20v rwd conversion guide: http://www.sq.id.au/auto/cooling/20vrwdcooling.html with sujestions on which engine to go for it all depends on what your trying to do with the car. A ca18 is a fairly cheap and effective upgrade. It is also lighter than an SR20 despite being a steel block. Quote
love ke70 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 SR20 if they are more common in your country, and the 2 litre capacity makes them alot easy to drive. SR20DET would be awesome, and i thinkt he hardest thing is making the gearbox fit, which i think uve done already having the CA18 in there? Quote
Nitephyre Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 welcome mate. Got any pics of your ride, as we love to see rolla's from all around the world :hmm: Quote
ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 The SR20DE has a lot of technical help here but i love how the CA18DET has a stronger block with oil pistons....I would love to get my hands on a 4AG 20V front cut (the AE80 right??) but thats really hard to get......does anyone know the differential ratio of the ke70??....a mechanic said that i can use a lancer GSR disc stock with LSD..i just wanna know if that diff ratio would be wise???...i will post some pics over the weekend..... Quote
love ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 sorry, the sr20det is much stronger than the ca18det. and you can make alot more power out of the SR. diff ratio of a ke70 can be 3.8, 4.1 or 4.3 depending on your model. Quote
irokin Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 The SR20DE has a lot of technical help here but i love how the CA18DET has a stronger block with oil pistons.... Its not a problem. There is a way to install oil squirter's in an SR20DE. Theres a guy in Europe making 920BHP with a turbo'd SR20DE so they're just as strong as the SR20DETs. Hes now chasing 1000BHP on the engine dyno. Alternatively you could just get an SR20DET. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 (edited) Yep, just strolled down to the shed to check, and the oil squirters are just bolted in- one bolt per squirter. I have not got a srde disassembled enough yet but maybe they just have a bolt blocking the holes. Edited January 13, 2007 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote
ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 i got the corolla DX model......ok u guys gave me good input and I'm thinkin of the SR20DE RWD now...I'm guessin for the gearbox to fit into the housing it would have to be enlarged cuz thats what the mechanics did for the CA tranny...would i have to swap in a diff or can my stock diff handle the SR??....Just by chance since i swapped in the CA18 my dash instruments don't work so i had to get a water temp and fuel with sender unit gauges, is there any way i can use my stock instruments?? I remember a mechanic said that there is an adapter that i can use but i havent been able to source it..was he saying CRAP or is there really one??....by the way this site ROCKSSSSSSS :) :hmm: Quote
ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 has anyone ever tried an RB20DET in a ke70??.....i read that in the RB series that an RB25 and up is where u would see real power cuz an SR can easily beat an RB20??....I'm just wondering bout the weight in the front..it would throw off the balance of the car right??....unless i get stiffer springs in the front and better shocks???....... love ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 I'm running a 1ggte in my ke70 which is a toyota built 2 ltr straight 6. came factory with twin turbo, however i have converted to single turbo. the handling is still surprisingly good when you consider the crank pulley is about 3mm from the radiator and hard against the firewall. I'm currently running the turbo off an rb20 til i can afford something better, and the rb20 i pulled the turbo off was physically bigger than the 1ggte. you can make it handle with such a large motor, but if you wanna go crazy why not go rb26 and sit the motor back into the cabin a bit :) if i was to build my ke70 again, i would use something of a 4cylinder nature, jus to keep the weight back, and to free up some space in the engine bay. but that said, the 1g is enormous fun :hmm: Quote
ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 that sounds like a crazy fun but i agree with keeping a straight-4.....i took out some pics of my corolla...so check it out and let me know what u guys think...... Quote
ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 here are some more pics of my corolla..... Quote
7shades Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Hehehe thats cool... love the steering wheel cover :hmm: Engine is sitting on a very nasty angle.... even more than usual for a CA.... is your shifter still vertical? Also what radiator are you using? Did it come from the CA donor car like a bluebird or something? Quote
ca18de in a ke70 Posted January 13, 2007 Author Report Posted January 13, 2007 u are right 7shades cuz i remember someone saying that....but an SR should fit snug in the engine bay right??...the radiator came with the same engine..the person was kind-hearted to give it to me...u like the extractors though??....
