Peter Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Sorry Rob, Maybe It's the Mid's, but I can't actually see what actuates the butterfly shaft. I see the return spring and the cable attachment but no linkage btw them and the butterfly shaft, is it hidden behind something in the photo? Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 sorry, a little off-topic here; but can you bore a 4k out to 80 mm? Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 you wouldn't, the bore walls are pretty thin even at 060 (76.5mm), i think my 060 4k has about 3mm to a water jacket at its thinnest, 4mm for everything else. just get a 5k block Quote
blown 5k Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Trd pistons would bore 3mm over and 4mm over,i`ve heard of people getting away with boring out a 4k to accept 5k pistons so yes it is possible.Trd used to recommend pressure testing the block once overbored, ive had a 3k go porus at 3mm over but ive also got a 3k bored out to 4mm over and it has heaps of thickness left. Super Jamie Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 3k is different block again. 3k block with 4k crank is also do-able Quote
blown 5k Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Yep i`ve got one,3k block+ 4k crank bored out 4mm=1430cc 3k. Quote
Banjo Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Got my 5 speed gearbox out of the car at the moment to replace a front oil seal. The 5 speed mates up to a 4K-C as a daily drive. Just aquired a 5K-C last night and brought it home. Quickly mated the 5 speed box off the 4K-C upto it, and it mates perfectly. Hope that helps. That sure was a great 5K buy you got for $ 500.00. We're all envious. :P Quote
Teddy Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 lol on the weekend I'm picking up a running 5K for $150, and a good 5 speed for $30 Bahahahah :P ! Quote
Banjo Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Teddy, what a find ! And I thought Justatoy got a good deal. It sounds like you have a friend or someone who doesn't really know the worth of these 5Ks. It shows there are still some out there to be sourced, but heavens, there are hard to find. I've been searching for 5 months. Previous ones I've found were all in places like S.A. or Tasmania. I go mine on the Sunshine Coast, a mere hour odd drive away. I'm like a kid the night before Christmas at the moment; Can't wait to get into it this weekend. Mine has 160 - 165 PSI on all four cylinders, and very smooth running, so I'm rapped ! I'll let you know how I go, & what I find. :P Quote
demuire Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Banjo: There's a 5K in a Corolla at the Wacol wreckers, I think it even has a 5 speed bolted onto it! Quote
TRD ke70 Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 lol on the weekend I'm picking up a running 5K for $150, and a good 5 speed for $30 Bahahahah :D ! was your gun loaded??? what a steal. :P well done. tony wants to know if he can borrow your gearbox for the next rally, and does it come with a gear stick??? :y: Quote
TRD ke70 Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 sorry, a little off-topic here; but can you bore a 4k out to 80 mm? yip i've done one. it went out to 5k(80.5) the guy who bored it thought i was nuts, i only wanted to see if there was enough meat in the bore to do it. big surprise, the block i used was a 81 4k from a ke70 auto, there was heaps of meat left in the block, i ran the engine in a ke30 auto, just standard. the only thing i found was a small temp increase on the gauge. not recommended for making big HP!!!!!
