large Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Hey fellas, wondering if anyone can help me with this.I've got a 5k block and have put a 4k head on it (all recond) and have got it to run, but the tappets are really noisy and I can't work it out.The 5k block is the domed piston type (I hear there is also one with flat tops?) and I've got both 4k and 5k pushrods but am running the longer of the two types at the moment. I'm new to corollas and any help would be much appreciated, cheers Quote
irokin Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 You realise the 5K has hydraulic lifters and the 4K valve train is for solid lifters? Quote
large Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 I discovered that recently, but Is there anyway the 4k head can still be run? the guy I bought the block off told me I could, was he talking shit? Quote
large Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Posted January 4, 2007 (sorry I meant the 5k is also the dished piston type) Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) all the 4K-E's over here were hyd. but had adj. rocker arms I THINK you set them to 0 lash, then 1/4 turn hot? unfortuatley mine are solid, will 5k hyd. fit a 4k block? Edited January 4, 2007 by mikeys toy Quote

I think the problem is more than the hydraulic lifters are fed through the rocker gear and down the push rod (Someone will hopefully clarify this...Xany?). Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I heard somewhere that the 4 K-E ones were silicone filled or something Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 just use some 4k solid lifters and push rods you already have! :D Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Anyone have a hydraulic system they want to sell/ trade Quote

madrolla68 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Cheers Taz Rx, mthe head is a 4k-c, do they have solid lifters? if not what 4k head would? thanks 4K lifters wont fit ina 5K block,i have some solid lifters that will suit your 5K block but you will need to change to a flat tappet cam from a hydraulic cam. large Posted January 6, 2007 Author Report Posted January 6, 2007 where abouts are you located? would one of those cams be costly and where do u think I could source one? cheers Quote
madrolla68 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 (edited) where abouts are you located? would one of those cams be costly and where do u think I could source one? cheers I am in perth mate and it is a worthwhile upgrade for the 5K,cost of reground cams here is around $100 and the lifters cost about $8.00 to $10.00 each. Killswitch Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 What lifters do you have madrolla? And where'd you get them, I'd like to know for when I get round to getting my 5K sorted. Muchly appreciated. If you could go into a bit more detail of fitment as well that'd be great, unless its one of those magical 'bolt on' upgrades everyone always has! Cheers Quote
irokin Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Solid lifter conversion is in the FAQ http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?tit...Series/5K_Solid Still need someone to do a write up about using lifters from other motors etc. Quote
