mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 5, 2007 Author Report Posted January 5, 2007 You're not just messing with me are ya? there is a 'commercial' yard about 30mi from here that spans 10+ acres. Being commercial, prices are going to be a bit higher; but still much less than aussie prices. Quote
7shades Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 nah dude fo rizzle.... I'll be trying my best to get there.... like I said in the tokyo thread I'm coming over with an intent to purchase two mustangs... one to keep for the old man, one to sell. (and hopefully finding my chaser in Japan on the way :D )  So the only things limiting me will be time and funds. Having seen that field I hope to have enough of both to import some "restorers" as well  So yeah... fingers crossed I have as much green to play with as I would like by the time I leave :) Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 5, 2007 Author Report Posted January 5, 2007 ok, give me an estimate of a ball park figure of a time-frame so I can be prepared... :) Â also, I will post pics of the 'big' yard when I see it. Quote
7shades Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 mmm.... "big" yard. Mikey you're touching me in my special place..... :) Â I arrive in the states 5th of march... leaving 30th. Going to mexico for a few days during spring break... (oh f@$k yeah)... but other than that I have no other arrangements so I reckon sometime between 17th-29th. I'll try and sort out the 'stangs as soon as I get there so I know how much time and moolah I have left to play with. Â Really keen to make this happen dude.... If it works once, it'll work again and could turn into a nice little passive income for us both. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 6, 2007 Author Report Posted January 6, 2007 I'm not really interested in making money off of this; my first goal as the 'Car Jesus' is to save the cars. I cannot stand to see cars just sit and rot my second goal is to help Jim. He's an old man who makes his living on scrap metal. He couldn't stand to crush these cars so he saved them. my third goal is to help someone (you) find their dream car at an affordable level Quote

mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 6, 2007 Author Report Posted January 6, 2007 If he had any hemis they'd be in my driveway :) look at post #27 the 2nd and 3rd pics; it a genuine '65 gto. pretty bruised, but it is fixable he has a fairly clean '50(ish) 1/2 ton shortbox and this 1 ton cab/chassis Quote
gabea83 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 yeah would it be possible to get pictures of the 1/2 ton. you can pretty much tell the year by the grille. i'm in need of parts. haha. thanks. gabe. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 6, 2007 Author Report Posted January 6, 2007 ya, I need to anyway; maybe tomorrow Quote
7shades Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 I'm not really interested in making money off of this; my first goal as the 'Car Jesus' is to save the cars. I cannot stand to see cars just sit and rot my second goal is to help Jim. He's an old man who makes his living on scrap metal. He couldn't stand to crush these cars so he saved them. my third goal is to help someone (you) find their dream car at an affordable level  Car jesus.... love it dude :) Wouldn't you be the car moses though? Leading the cars out of slavery to the promised land but taking 38 years to get there?  But In all seriousness I don't wanna come across as some flagrant opportunistic capitalist so I'll just put a couple of points across about myself so you don't get the wrong impression... (and for anyone else who may be wondering who the hell this 7shades idiot is)  Amongst many other things, I'm a licensed motor dealer. But I'd like to think I'm a slightly more ethical one. Cars aren't my main source of income... more of a hobby with benefits. My formula for determining the final sale price of any car I recondition is: purchase price + parts and expenses + my time @ $25 per hour. This more often than not ends up being much cheaper than the book value but I'm ok with that cos it means someone gets a bargain and I get good rep. I also stick to toyotas mainly, as they generally don't break down and cost the buyer more money.  I also import from japan. except unlike most importers, I don't sell crap. I only bring in 3 or 4 cars a year cos it takes me that bloody long to find really really good stock... genuine low kilometre, unmolested examples. I charge a premium for these cars as they cost more for me to buy... but the genuine enthusiasts know what they're paying for. The other upshot is I'm in no hurry to sell them once they're ready for sale so I get to roll some cool wheels for a few months while I wait for the right buyer :D  As for the yankee metal, this is a new thing for me. I was always going to get the mustang for the old man, we just figured getting two and selling one would break us even and we end up with a free car. Then your photos got me thinking about bringing in some other cool cruisers so I started playing with the idea in my head and did some research and I reckon I can pull it off. As soon as they arrive here they will be going straight into the loving hands of a couple of old blokes I know. These guys are cool.... one mechanic, one panelbeater, both "retired" and running a little restoration business. As well as doing private jobs, these guys bring in about 4 cars a year (mostly big caddies and the occasional mustang) and they restore and sell them for big dollars... hows 65k for a 64-67 'stang! I wouldn't be selling mine for anywhere near that much.... just enough to cover the work they do, and my time.  As for as throwing some cash your way goes, I was thinking if it all works out after I've come and had a look, you might wanna help me out on a semi-regular basis by finding the good examples, taking photos, getting them running etc and putting them on a truck to LA ready for shipping to Au. If you're up for it, I'd be happy to compensate you for your time. This is of course completely up to you... and its all up in the air at the moment I'm just thinking longer-term.  So yeah.... I'd like to think we're on a similar wavelength... I hate seeing cool cars get wrecked and I like the ones I sell to go to good homes... And I'd be happy to see old mate jimbo get what he's due for doing the right thing and saving the old metal.  End rant :y:  Jarad Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) I went to the third yard today; it's actually smaller due to him crushing cars lately 1st pic; a '59 Ford ranchero, some rust in quarters. '60 buick invictas, 64-66 mustang coupes; the yellow one is a v-8 car and looks like its rebuildable, but a tree fell on the trunklid and left quarter. the black one has a decent quarter, a '59 chevrolet el camino-the first year for chevy, BTW; I never thought you were being an opportunist; I didn't want YOU to think I was being one. I'm not buying these cheap and selling to you higher. I COULD buy them a little cheaper than you could, but I wouldn't do that Edited January 7, 2007 by mikeys toy Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 Here's a '60 Ford Falcon Futura 2dr coupe with buckets and a center console, a '61 pontiac tempest with the half V-8 and rear mounted trans, a '66 (ish) Dodge A100 pickup, a '55 Oldsmobile rocket 88 Quote
