Mushroom Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Hey there guys, i bought some mags off of a mate awhile ago and i want to put them on my KE55, but the cars wheel studs(if thats what you call them) are too short for the depth of the tires, how/if possible do i make the normal studs longer? do i have to swap the strut or just the disc, sorry if the question isnt written right. Cheers guys, harley Quote

7shades Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I asked this question a little while ago... search for the thread.... camry studs I think Quote
foc64 Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Harley I used early model Toyota Hilux 4wd disc brake wheel studs on my T18 hubs. They work out to be around 8mm longer than standard corolla studs and are the same thread (12mmX1.5mm I think - Nissans etc are diffrent - 12mmX1.75m?). The only thing that needs modifing on the Hilux studs is the spline at the base of the stud, it's longer on the Hilux one compaired to the corrolla - once you see them up close youll understand. I carefully ground mine down a few millimetres on the bench grinder before installing them (Big hammer and a steel block on the back side of the hub with a 12.5mm clearance hole for the stud to fit through). TO remove the old studs you need to pull your hubs off the car and either heat them up around the studs with a blow tourch/oxy set and then tap out with a hammer. YOu could try this with out heating up, just remember to support the back of the hub on a vise or something, also if you do irt this way you will completly stuff the threads on the old studs (run a spare wheel nut on them and aim for this with the hammer if you want to keep them). One last thourght - if you decide to use Hilux studs, please don't buy them from your Toyota dealer unless you have a fat wallet, I got mine for about $3-$4 each from a Four Wheel Drive wrecker/parts place (brand new studs). flat out Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 don't you just use mag wheel nuts that go inside the actual stud hole on the mag? Quote
Trev Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 don't you just use mag wheel nuts that go inside the actual stud hole on the mag? Thats what you would normally do but some people would rather go through the trouble of changing wheel studs when you can go to a tyre shop and get a longer wheel nut, My dad just put his pathfinder wheels on his triton and had to get longer depth nuts from a tyre shop (bob jane). jamesrolla Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 don't you just use mag wheel nuts that go inside the actual stud hole on the mag? this doesnt allways work as some wheels wont have the big enough holes and they have a taper on them to suit a factory style wheel nut but the ones casey suggested would be better as they go further onto the studs Quote
Mushroom Posted January 3, 2007 Author Report Posted January 3, 2007 Hey thanks alot for that guys, I really appreciate it, i think i have to go with the hilux studs, with the mags that i have, Thanks again as soon as i get em ill let yas know how it went and ill post pics. CHEERS harley Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 you wont have to heat the hubs to get the old studs off. 1 or 2 swift hard hits with a hammer will dislodge them. i can't remember if you can get the studs out whilst on the the car for the fronts, but the rears should be no worries. to get the new studs on, grab a heap of washers or a bolt thats larger than the stud so they can slid straight over the stud without catching. then wind a reversed wheel nut on, and do it up until the head of the stud is flush with the hub. as foc64 said, the old studs will be throw away items! Rollin-Rolla Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 yeh i just changed my studs the other day i needed to run nissan threads on my hubs. i went to auto pro to buy them. if you go to www.niceproducts.com.au youll find everything you need. like the interference fit that your current stud has and length etc. then you just look for one that matches or is fairly close but obviously longer in your case. if you go to sprints or auto pro or somewhere like that you can even look in there book. and to put the new studs on, you don't need to bash them on with a metal block and hammer. you just get some wheel nuts and tighten them on with a rattle gun, thats what i did and got those puppies on in no time with minimum fuss. you don't need an interfernce fit which is perfect mine went up by .1mm but you don't want to go down tho youd rather a tighter fit so it don't come loose. nice products has all that you need. its pretty basic Quote
