pozman Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 ok, is there any differnces in the ta22 and the ra23, other than the engine? i've heard that the ra23 has a slightly long engine bay/front end. is this true or are they the same? Quote
Trev Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Just a link that might be a bit helpful: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8375 Cheers Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Why would you bother woth the 18r? Most of our early celicas had the 20r until '83 when they went to the 22r-e my sister had a '74 with the 20r there's a guy here in town with an early celica; I will ask him if I can take some pics of the engine bay Quote
Nat-ae71 Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Our ra23 celicas came with the 18r standard, so the easiest upgrade is to use an 18rg (twin cam, twin carb) or an 18rgeu (twin cam injected) Ta22 and ra23's are damn sexy cars, I'm thinking of getting one to keep my Corolla company, lol Quote
pozman Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 looks like the ra23 has a wider engine bay, as the cross member from the ra23 is to wide for the ta22 so ra23 may be a little better for big engine coversions Quote
7shades Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Had both.... TA22 was my first rally car actually. met with a rather spectacular end. And yes, you can fit bigger things into the RA23... but you'll only need to utilise that extra room (its bugger all by the way) if you intend on shoehorning things like 1JZ's into it, which I doubt you will be. The 18-RG was a fantastic engine in its day... I can still hear the delightful syncopated scream of my old one at full noise.... 2.5" zorst and twin dellortos gave it such a wonderful induction note.... sounded like an old alfa romeo with bigger balls. Almost gave me wood every time I drove it... :y: Good luck finding a decent 18rg these days though... most have been flogged senseless and those that haven't are worth heaps. But, there's still quite a few decent TA22's around (better looking than the RA23 I reckon) and a 3tgte swap is pretty damn easy and will make for a very well balanced and quick car. Quote
anastasios Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I'm still not 100% sure what the 21r comes out of Quote
7shades Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I'm still not 100% sure what the 21r comes out of RA60... mid 80's horrible pointy model Quote
pozman Posted December 30, 2006 Author Report Posted December 30, 2006 there in a few coronas aswell aren't they? Quote
skiddz Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 (edited) hey guys the ta22 has a shorter engine bay by about 75mm, shorter front struts, and is also slightly narrower across the front. the T/RA23 had the parkers mounted in the bumper and ALL '23s had the square lip guards and the homo looking pillar vents as well as the flat indicators, bonnet bulge, different windscreen washer vent things, different dash eith different instruments full length console (like 22 st and gt) and i beleive a 3 speaker factory stezza (as opposed to 1 speaker in the 22). all of the first gen celicas share the same rear suspension, if ya can get ur hands on an ra25gt (good luck sunny) u can slot the f series rear end in with no dramas I'm currently putting a 20v into my 22, those that wish to see progress/what I'm doing >click here< any other question, ask cos i can probably answer them edit* 21r's also came in hilux's Edited January 1, 2007 by skiddz Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 2, 2007 Report Posted January 2, 2007 From an engineering point of veiw, the ta22 weighs approx 1030. the ra series is over 1100kg, this means the ta22 slips into the "under 1100 bracket" and is allowed about half the motor the ra series is legally. The ta22 is sooooo much more attractive though, if i had the choice id still go the ta22, even though it has half the potential. (these are the qld rules). Quote
