RootMan Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Hey guys, Well, as the title states, i think it is time for my little corolla to be lowered. Last week i got an exhaust, and i've had the rims for a couple of months, and its time to get this thing nice and low. The thing is, i have no idea what is involved with lowering an AE82 sohc corolla such as mine. Is it simply a matter of putting in new lower springs? Can anybody reccomend a place in melbourne that could perform this work, or provide me with the springs to do it? Furthermore, how much will this operation cost? Thank you very much in advance! Rootman... Quote
irokin Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 You can just put in lowered springs. It wont be the ultimate handling machine but It'll make it low (I assume thats all youre after?). Any suspension place (pedders...whatever) and some tyre places should be able to get springs in for you and fit them. Time to open up the phone book and start calling :ninja: Quote
GZE82 Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 dandy exhausts are under car specialists. i got my twinky done there. job done in 2 hrs for 380. that was for superlow kings supplied and fitted. good guys there. will be goin back there shortly with sprinter Quote

I have bought a few exhaust systems from them in the past, but not within the last 4 years. Top bunch of blokes used to work there. If your out near Flemington, GT Suspensions are one of the distributors for Lovells springs. Last check they were selling pairs of superlows for $150 the pair. If Dandy exhausts can supply and fit all 4 corners for $380, then thats your best option. Quote
coln72 Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 I'm a dodgy bastard so I'm gonna suggest going to Bunnings, buying a grinder and a can of whatever colour the brand of your choice uses and make your own :hmm: Even better, grab a bucket, go to a mate with an oxy, fill bucket with water, place spring in bucket and cut. Old man swears it works :ninja: Quote

rthy Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 i was quoted $800 for new Pedders low springs (red) and new sports ryde shocks (set of 4) to this day I'm still using king superlows and std shocks (captive but the shocks are rooted) Quote
TRoll89 Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 I'm also looking at putting some king spring lows on my ae82 1986 model.. don't think the shocks are really that damaged :P cars never been run hard / cornered hard.... what do you guys think about just buying the shocks and a self install ? been told it'll drive like a boat though  I'm scared ! Quote
kangaroosa Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Generally if you put lowered springs into a car, you match it up with some nice shocks to suit. It will only drive like a boat if your shocks are stuffed though. I use KYB Excel G's. Quote
webers4x48 Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Take it from me guys. I have a AE82 twinky seca with kings super lows and standard shockies, and it handles like a piece of sh*t. I'm definitely looking into good shockies and sway bars to match the springs. After that it should corner like it's on rails. If your down the Frankston/ Morninton peninsula way, Pedders Frankston is definitely a good place to go. Quote
TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 they understeer like a bastard with just the lowering done as well... Highly recomend a whiteline rear sway bar to fix that, there easy to fit and I picked one up for 150 a short while back. Makes a HUGE difference! Jarrad Quote
Sim Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 where can i go to get the leaf springs on my ke20 lowered? and how much will this set me back? iv got no idea when it comes to leafs, hah. Quote
coln72 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 four options 1. get them proffessionally reset 2. straighten main leaf a little in a hydrolic press yourself (done this to a KE35 - ended up just off the bumpstops :D Main leaf was curved the wrong way when the weight of the car went back on it) 3. flip a couple of leaves over 4. remove a couple of leaves (did this on my old KE20 - main leaf ended up straight) Quote
kangaroosa Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 (edited) I had mine professionally done with an extra leaf, about 9 years ago. I even ordered a set of custom coils from the same workshop about 6 months back. Moorabbin Springworks 62 Levanswell Rd Moorabbin, VIC 3189 (03) 9553 3446 Edited August 29, 2007 by kangaroosa Quote
