Redwarf Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 I love Keiths work....... the man is a craftsman.... Quote
demuire Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 Ah, and I've already managed to scratch his craftmanship :P Dropped the lever (just the lever itself). Oops. Have drilled and painted reinforcement plate, haven't done transmission tunnel yet (drill ran out of battery). Measured, calculated, scratched head, measured and guessed a fair bit - have to make sure when I put the Sprinter box in there I can still use 2nd, 4th and reverse gear :P The shifter sits a whole 115mm further back! I think I've gotten it right though. Dropped tailshaft, looked at brake lines, bending old brake line to go through floor is going to be interesting. Not looking forward to it... Quote
Redwarf Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 I have my flare tool back, too. Give me a yell and you can pick it up anytime.. R Quote
demuire Posted September 14, 2004 Author Report Posted September 14, 2004 (edited) Oh cool. Working late tomorrow, will try to pick it up Thursday, if you're around. Will call on Thursday... Ta :P Yay, have also sorted out my "LSD" and spare axles :P Edited September 14, 2004 by demuire Quote
demuire Posted September 16, 2004 Author Report Posted September 16, 2004 The second handbrake isn't properly bolted up yet, just have to cut, drill and paint the rear mounting plate (and make the cables to suit the diff). Also need to paint it too... Quote
demuire Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Haha, I think it would be a fair while before I even begin to approach the level of uber-skill that Rob displays at motorkhanas :P Quote
Peter Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 May I remind you that Ryan WAS leading the series with "home made" equipment. Point being that It's not what you spend but how you use it. This being said we are spending shitloads on rebuilding the engine!!!!!!!! Quote
demuire Posted September 19, 2004 Author Report Posted September 19, 2004 Hydraulic handbrake is in the car now. All plumbed up, and bled (I think). I haven't driven the car in so long I've forgotten what the pedal is supposed to feel like, and with the front brakes working so well, the rears could be completely non-functional and I probably wouldn't even notice :P But the pedal feels relatively good, and the handbrake is also firm, so I think it's okay. First thoughts? Nowhere near as good as I hoped. But then again that's probably because my MC is too big for the little drums. That said, it works a SHITELOAD better than the old cable handbrake, and I can stop the car on a hill with just 1 finger holding the lever, where's I actually had to reef the cable handbrake... Still having trouble consistantly locking the rears up, and it's not something I'm really very happy to test out here... Going to take the drums off and clean everything up to make sure that's all good. Yay :) Quote
demuire Posted September 20, 2004 Author Report Posted September 20, 2004 Umm... At this stage, no. They are pretty well supported (just below floor and then at the MC) and besides, not much goes around that area anyway. I might make something up later maybe, when I start thinking of fabricating things like a footrest for both driver and navigator etc... Probably after the cage goes in... Dunno. At this stage, I'm only really concentrating on getting the new diff in, getting new rear brakes to work, hooking up new handbrake lever to new brakes, stuff like that... Quote
mlaser Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 i'm a big fan of drumming up old posts and figured this would be the perfect post to ask a question. I own one of paul p's old cars fook you know it as the red rocket, it's got a hydraulic handbrake in it but paul obviously didnt mind the illegal fact that it doesnt have a cable hand brake as a backup, i wanted to know how hard it is to install the mechanical handbrake as obviously if i ever get the damn project finished ill need one to get it over the pits. Cheers Also another question off topic if someone knows, why would paul have put a smaller track diff in a car that he used to rally? it's got a 120y diff which i found out dereases the track by 3". Cheers again Quote
