Mr Revhead[RL] Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 ok spent over an hour searching the net to no avail... I'm after SPECIFIC info and pics on uprighting a K series engine all i can find is people on forums saying "search" or people saying: "you need to make new mounts and oil pickup" or nay sayers saying its not worth it or costs too much well bollocks to that, i want specifics!! measurements, diagrams, pictures! not worries about the intake, thats another story :jamie: Quote
Raven Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 More to the point, why would you wanna do that? Quote
Xany Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Uprighting a K engine apparently increases horsepower. Warwick, i'd probably PM the trd brothers about it if you want detailed info. TRD and TRD_KE70 are the ones you want to contact. Quote
Raven Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Yeah? I never knew that.... now you're giving me ideas dude. lol. Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted November 25, 2006 Author Report Posted November 25, 2006 yeah they will know, but i thought a good thread on it will be of more help to more members :) but i shall PM them and point them here. also gives me more room for an intake :jamie: Quote
Medicine_Man Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 From what I understand it helps stop the oil pooling in the head the way it lays. From what I've heard you can swap one engine mount on to the other side and fabricate a new mount for the other. Also you will have to modify the gearbox crossmember mount too.. Quote
Des Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 (edited) If you tilted the motor to an upright position wouldnt the carbies be alot closer to the bonnet ? Edited November 26, 2006 by too quick Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 idealy you use a T50 box (i will be) and mod the bellhousing so the enigne tilts but the box stays upright I'm trying to find pics or details of exactly how u can do this Quote
TRD ke70 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 i've got the TRD info here somewhere, i'll try and link it off my website. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 I've actually seen a custom upright kit setup, he did have a custom mount for the gearbox. I didn't get a look at the way the mounts were setup though. He took his motor back to NZ with him, If I can find his details I might PM him and ask him.. Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 cool! thought I'm rather keen on not tilting the g/b but if i have too il look at it Quote
Fayt Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 uprighting a K does improve performance, but the performance increase is sweet FA, i wouldnt go to the trouble of doing it, but it does allow more room for carbies so you can have a couple of nice webers hanging off the side with shiny trumpets :) my dad would know how to do it, as he has done it b4 in the long past, but I'm not very famililar with uprighting motors :jamie: the only thing u've got to consider is if you want the gearstick coming out on an angle inside the car, ive thought about uprighting my 5k but it would make the interior look a lil dodgy IMO and thats what turned me off it Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 yeah done properly the gearbox doesnt move... Quote
Fayt Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 depends how much $$$ you wanna throw at it uprighting the motor will give you about 0.2 more hp, really the only reason people upright K engines is so as you can ahve a longer inlet manifold = more torque, if you decide to go with it the good luck with :jamie: Quote
