Australian Domestic Market - A car (or something) thats sold in australia.

The SX corolla is the twincam (4age) version of the ae92 corolla.

Japanese Domestic Market - A car (or something) thats sold in japan.

on the big port head the words "16 valve" is written in blue and on the small port head the words "twincam 16 valve" are written in red.

so what is the difference between the jdm and aus small port 16 valve?

thanks brett

As far as i know, nothings different. Their both the same motor. Possibly the only difference would be the ECU since japan has higher octane fuel.

True with the cam covers. But do remember, only take that as an idea to what the motor could be. Cause, like, one that i've got under the house has redtop cam covers but its really a bigport motor.

You'll be better off looking on toymods cause there was a thread or two on the subject a good while back.

True.

I got the motor from a mate, and we both thought it was a "between" version. It was a version that used the bottom end from a small port block, big port head and redtop cam covers. But i finally got around to pulling the sump off and its just another big port motor. So i'm guessing the cam covers had been swapped over before me mate bought it

Pretty sure smallports all have red cam cover lettering "red top" but to confuse you even more AW11 MR2's have "red top" bigport heads.. The red lettering is probably a better indication that the block is the later "7 Rib" block.. yes the smallports were released in the AE92 SX Corollas, A Jap 100KW motor may have a better tuned ECU as the Japanes fuel is better than the shit we get over here. Pretty much the same as the Aus 86KW and the Jap 88KW 4AGE tuned ECUs.. Possible to find the LSD but somewhat rare from what i understand?

There are actually 2 versions of the bigport (As Medicine_Man pointed out before), The "Blue and Black Top" (3-rib block) and the "Red And Black Top" (7-rib block) both been identified by the TVIS badge or you can identify them by the spark plug cover (will get to that shortly).

86kw Blue and Black top bigport 3-rib (AE82) - 1st generation:

86kw Red and Black top bigport 7-rib (AE92 '88) - 2nd generation:

Now it comes to the smallport 7-rib 100kw engine which can be identifed by the plain ribbed inlet manifold and the spark plug cover:

100kw Red and Black top smallport 7-rib (AE92 '89) - 3rd generation:

This should be able to expalin it quite easily as to what engine you have, Are you able to post a pic of it at all.
