Was just browsing through Mazda Japan's website and found this

Another unique model, the Parkway Rotary 26 was the worlds first low-emission bus with a rotary powerplant. Launched in July 1974, it made its sensational debut with the powerful Type 13B engine. The bus, which could produce 135PS, was comfortable cruising along at 120km/h

Not bad for a bus that was 6195mm long, 1980mm wide and 2295mm tall, and weighed 2835kg dry with a NA 13b.

I particularly like this bus, for some reason

:) the whole roadpacer thing did not come about by mazda wanting cars to put engines in,............it was actually due to GM wanting rotary engines to put in thier vehicles.

You are correct about the car being competition to crowns however in a luxury market.

Basically GM were very interested in developing a luxury car (schaufer sp? driven) with a rotary engine for its smooth quiet running (a rotary with the standard exhaust is actually VERY quiet and smooth, I should know as I bought a stocker). After trying to design and develop there own engine GM actually bout plans of Mazda's engines to copy, They still had no success and couldn't produce a decent engine even with mazda's plans.

They then got GM Aus (Holden) to send 500 HJ Premiers, minus engines and g/boxs to mazda in Japan to have the 13b and auto boxs installed.

The power output of the 13b was exactly the same as that of the 202, but with half the torque. Mind you it would have also had twice the rev range!!!!

This topic has be done to death on ausrotary.com so if anybody wants more information do a search on there for "roadpacer" in the "general discussion - rotaries and cars forum" you will find many posts.

as for the parkway 26, if you aslo do a search for that you will find some pics and details of one being restored in NZ with a 13b bridgy!!!
