dysolve Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Hi all, I must have hit my head of some thing. I sold my Hilux last week end, and today I went a got my self a 1982 VH commodore. The good thing is it a baby V8 a good old 253 with a trimatic , I even got the receipts to say it got less then 30000k's on the running gear and I am only the second owner. The old dude that owned it spent around $10k on it and then passed away.. I only paid $1000 for it the guy wanted $1990 .. The thing goes better then my wifes VP commodore. ( I think she wants to swap) . theres something weird going on ATM , My best mate sold is little car to get a falcon, my wife sold her little car to buy a commdore and I sold my hilux to get my commodore, maybe everybody is turning full bogan.. Now I just need to get a VB tee-shirt... Quote
Jono Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 did you get the 87kw or the 96kw version? sweeeeet power per litre!! Quote
Dan Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Haha sweet. Considering a 253 is 4.2L, and k motors are 1.3L, they are quite relative in aspects of power per litre... Quote

7shades Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Last commodore I owned was a povo-pack VL wagon I picked up off some smelly backpackers on their way to the airport to leave the country. Cost me $200 and a couple of beers in the departure lounge. Flogged it around for 8 months til the rego ran out and the head gasket blew and left the bucket of shit on the side of the road where it spluttered to a halt. A fitting end for a backwards-engineered mildly-polished turd hastily assembled by ham fisted rednecks. In case anyone missed the very subtle vitriolic undercurrent in this post, I don't' hold our beloved local car industry in very high regard. Quote
Dan Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Yeah, but thats a VL, and VLs can suck my dick... Did you keep in mind that your skyline had a very similar base motor as the VL? Quote
Lukey Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 well in my opinion i think all holdens are gay and fords and corollas all the way but thats just me Quote
ke30corolla.coupe Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 fords you can't stop the bloody things from squeaking and rattling they say thats just what fords do i say theyre crap ive owned both fords and holdens, the holdens were far superior for build quality in my opinion but give me a rolla anyday over the both Quote
Dan Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Lol, I'm guessing you've owned an XD-F Falcon or two? Pretty much any X-series Falc is prone to rattling and squeaking, purely because they've seen alot of use and the rubber suspension bushes perish. My EA, although boat like, and probably the slowest Falc that I've ever driven, didn't have any rattles or squeaks and didn't develop them after alot of bush track pounding.... I wish I could say the same of the 3.9L boat anchor they called a motor. Quote
dysolve Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 The reason I got the commodore was so I could fix it cheaply. It may use more fuel then my ke20 but its a damn sight cheaper to fix.. It snowed and rained here in canberra today and it old commodore is a bitch to drive in the wet, I can not keep the rear end in check LOL... taking off from the lights is hard enough but once it grabs second gear... OUT she goes , and since its a wagon its as funny as all hell, at least its controlable. my work van is inpossible to drive in the wet with out weight in the back, you can not turn and hit the gas at the same time.. I think I might try and get an LSD for the commodore.. Quote

Dan Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Yeah, XD-Fs haven't fared well with age, thats for sure. They're still reliable as f@$k though, and if you thought it was slow wait until you get behind the wheel of one on LPG - the dizzy isn't the best design for LPG and won't let you get optimum performance out of it. My one, in the dirt, you'd have to throw it around like mad to do fishies, and the only reason why it would do them is because of basic physics lol, not power.... body roll ftw Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 this was the first and last ford ill ever own I love how people make broad sweeping comments about an entire car company simply by their experience in one car. Of late, it's tended to be the Commodore with the worse build quality (the BA generally regarded as being quite a solid, high quality car compared to the VX-VZzzzzzz). Most Fords you buy aren't even made in Australia, so local build quality can't be used as a generalising factor. In short, don't treat a whole company purely on one car (especially if its an old one). Hell, our KE55 has got it's fair share of squeaks and rattles, thats just one of the things about owning an older car. I'm not even going to consider that your car was a lemon. If you thought the noise in a X-Falcon is bad, there is probably one model in just about every car manufacturer's back catalogue that suffers just as much from poor build quality/NVH issues. If you drive each of them, would you say that you'd never buy a car from those companies again? If so, I'd invest in a good bicycle and pair of walking shoes, because based on those principles you'd never buy a car again. Quote
ke30corolla.coupe Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 i agree the ba and up fords are top cars :hmm: maybe i should have said i wouldnt touch an x series ford again Quote
