Widowmaker Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Is there a way to tell how oil is getting burnt? I have a 3k and it's quite smokey sometimes, normally alot when you are going heavy on the throttle and the engine fairly high in the revs. Is there a way to tell if it is the valves or the rings or something else? towe001 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Vacuum gauge is usefull - you'll just have to have hunt around on the net for the means the needle gives. A compression tester would give a fair indication if its valves, rings, carbon build-up or maybe the gasket. If the compression is down on one cylinder, squirt a little oil down the sparkplug hole and if the compression jumps back up it's a fair chance its the rings. Or the best or ideal thing to do is take it to a mechanic and get them to do a leak-down test. That'll show you what it is and where it is. Quote
