ancullen Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 BTW, ignore the Sprinter, turbo's ruin exhaust notes - but not induction noise, which I know is what you're referring to for noise quality. I'd upload a file of my car's induction noise, but I don't have one to upload. Just believe me that it sounds good though. Quote
Retrospekt Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Redwarf, theres a few pople waiting to do that... But a corolla making that sucking sound would also be great Quote
Redwarf Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 No! No! Don't get me wrong, I've heard some great 4AG's. I'm just an old school Weber man. :) Quote
Killswitch Posted October 21, 2006 Author Report Posted October 21, 2006 (edited) My aim for the car is something that's fun, will run somewhere into the 15s, can go around a track ok and is relatively cheap! I'm mainly considering the hybrid option because most of the parts are available to me locally which is a big factor in saving costs. Also, can't see the end result being anyworse than a 4AGE, infact it will probably be better :D . One can hope anyway... Anywho! Currently thinking 86mm flycut 3T-C pistons, balanced bottom end and stock head for starters. Not sure what to do with porting, cams, valves and springs, or carbs for that matter. So for those that have dabbled with hybrids or 2TG's like redwarf, retrospekt styler etc. Any recommendations in terms of head flow? Stock valves capable enough? I was just thinking of cleaning up the head maybe slight porting on the exhaust side and some heavy duty valve springs. Cams are pretty much personal preference I guess, but any recommendations for say 7000rpm~ish top end would be cool. Then topping it off with some webers if the budget allows otherwise finding something else, SU's perhaps? ;) EDIT!: Thought I'd just make sure, it is as simple as bolting on the 2TG head and swapping over the cam gear isn't it? No tricks unlike putting 3TC internals in a 2TG block? Thoughts appreciated! Thanks again all :) Edited October 21, 2006 by Killswitch Quote
1ggtelola Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 (edited) my 2tg/3tg goes a lot better than a 4age 86kw and a 100kw i no this because my best mate had a ae92sx and a jap inport ae92fxgt ill try and find a pic of my rebild to show you what the 3tc pistons look like in a 2tg and allso can you tell me what the model number on the head is?? you can use a 220 222 260 261 but not a 262 the 262 head will have no numbers at all the 260 and 261 heads are the best to use because there efi head with bigger valves Edited October 21, 2006 by 1ggtelola Quote
Hokey Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 If I go ahead it will be a 3T-C block with a 2T-G head, not the 3T innards in the 2T block. I've a question when it comes to this, will manifolds swap across between 3T and 2T heads? After some searching it appears exhaust will be intake won't, is this correct? Retrospekt that geocities link is pretty ace! Summary of pretty much all requirements. Any opinions on flycutting the toyota pistons versus spending large on aftermarket pistons? So many thoughts, yet I don't want to ask all these stupid questions! :D I was planning this for a KE30 but thought at the time it wouldn't have enough go for me. now my cousin has a 2tg in his AE71 with 140 psi on 3 cylinders and 105psi on one and it goes really well. will do a second gear burnout :) i reckon with a good condition hybrid it would go really well. my plan was to use 3t block and 2tg head. i had already had the pistons done i just needed to get the block machined, buy rings and bearings and put it together. looking back i should have done it as it wasn't going to cost me that much and i would have had a pretty quick car. i reckon you should go for it ;) Search old toymods and you should find some threads -Calvin :) Quote
Retrospekt Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 ill check my engine when i get home tomorow but i think it was the 222 220 head that was the better, one had double valve springs from memory (not at home so can't really check) and a 6 bolt front plate rather than 4 Quote
styler Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 2tg head on 3tc block : you pretty much need an entire 2tg motor to donate all the timing gear. rotate some bearings round to block off oil (can't remember the specifics of this atm) heads : all flow around 200hp stock - a guy on toymods bench flowed them. so thats heaps more than needed. all heads have big valves except the first one which is rare. all heads have dome chambers except the 262 head (unmarked) which has a kidney shaped combustion chamber and is unsuitable. early heads have more aggressive cam profiles. not sure this info is all right but as far as i know and what i can remember it is. should do a writeup on it. towe001 Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Ah that brings back fond memories of a weird double post that i made. Quote
Killswitch Posted October 23, 2006 Author Report Posted October 23, 2006 phowar! that's a shitload of info. Cheers! The hybrid construction will have to go on pause while I find a new place to live... :) Quote
ancullen Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Can't remember the number on the head. Redwarf knows it though. I can get you oversize 2T-C/3T-C valves and guides if you want them too Killswitch. :) Quote
styler Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 try this too, it is the best 2tg info site i have ever found :) 2tg spotters guide Quote
