99 Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 I will definitely be out there later in the day. I am helping out BSCC with the RACQ rally of yesteryear (basically a big show n shine of really old cars - over 1000 of them!!). BSCC is having a stall and we will be displaying the help.org.au Targa Skyline!! Now for the good bit.... I am lucky enough to be charged with the responsibility of driving the Skyline to the concourse and back to the workshop!!!!!!!! :) The especially nice bit is that I get to drive down the highway at cold o'clock on Sunday morning - mmmm, niiice for twin turbos... somehow I don't mind getting up before the sun for once!!! Anyhoo, I might just HAVE to drop in at Willowbank afterwards for a look ONLY. I know what you're thinking, stoppit now there is NO way I'm entering it. I'm excited!!!! Quote
demuire Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Oh I'm sure with a leeeeetle bit of persuasion we could persuade you to take it out for a leeeeetle spin :) You lucky girl you... Quote
99 Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Absolutely NOT!!! ;-) Couldn't help but brag - not very nice, but I'm excited!!! Quote
demuire Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Go The Datto Skyline GTR :) *grr bloody datsuns on the corolla board...* ;) Quote
demuire Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 OH WOW HOW MUCH FUN WAS THAT??? *GRIN* That must be the most fun I've ever had in a car... Ever. Hal went great all day until just before the last test when my battery terminal decided to become terminally unhealthy and fall apart, but dodgyness to the rescue, pieced it up together and held it together with electrical tape and completed the last test... My trip on the way to the track was interesting though. Put in the harness I borrowed, so driving was a bit strange (never driven with a harness before apart from the motorkhana special at Coffs), and then along the Centenary Highway the rattly exhaust (broke yesterday) started getting louder, and then "BANG!", shocked the hell out of me. Looked in the rear vision mirror and saw the exhaust shield (that I broke yesterday coming back from the dyno) fly out the back of the car, narrowly missing the van that was tailgating me... Oh well, I guess I don't need to weld it back now, because I don't even have it anymore... Stupid exhaust. Then driving towards Champions Way, one of those little black and white birds lands on the road and starts walking around, the way they do... And I'm thinking "oh yeah, little bird, it'll fly away" and a conversation I had with a friend about how those birds always fly away came to mind. "Any time now". "Go on you know you want to..." *DUD, DUD!* went the bird, first on my front spoiler, then on my windscreen, glanced in the rear mirror again, I don't think it survived :) :( :( Stupid bird... Anyways... Results! I'm REALLY happy! And oh gawd dirt is so much fun :) No classes, just outright places, 16 cars in total: 1) Craig Hornibrook - Commodore (334.65) 2) John Careless - TA22 Celica (335.68) 3) Fook Lee - AE35 Corolla (336.25) 4) Marcus Connelly - Mazda 626 (336.39) 5) Evan Wheeler - Datsun 1600 (339.81) WOO HOO! Paul (mumblezz) was also there, and while he didn't place a blistering speed, he definately showed us all how to do it in style, consistantly ;) Quote
Teddy Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Sounded like a great day :( Did any one take any photos / movies ? ill be out there one day, ohh i can't wait :) Congratulations Master_Fook - Great job ! Paul - lol go Takumi ;) ! When it comes to the points tally, how do they calculate them? Thanks :) Quote
demuire Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Points is same as motorkhana - time minus penalties. My camera broke, so I have no photos :) Haikal broke himself, so he didn't come either ;) Quote
demuire Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I even got fastest time in 2 out of 6 tests :) WOO HOO!!! Quote
Teddy Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 Wow fook !! ".. should be going out to watch, but no driving for me as the grounds will be too rough I think.." I bet you are glad you didn't stay with this idea! - in the end, how rough was it? Quote
demuire Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 It was reasonably smooth actually. The bits that were on the autocross track were smooth as, the bits that were in the paddock were REALLY loose and there were a few bumps and stuff but all the bumps were just bumps in the soil and not rocks or anything so the car went through alright. In fact I think most of the bumps were just ruts from the previous cars flying through... That track is SO MUCH FUN though, nothing quite like hanging the tail out at 7000RPM in 2nd gear, snap 3rd and kick it out even more :) And then down to 2nd, minor compression lock, flick into the next turn, SO MUCH FUN ;) Handbrake still doesn't work though, couldn't even lock it up on the dirt which is just PATHETIC. It works well enough to hold the car on slopes, but doesn't have a chance in hell at locking up the wheels, and I'm almost certain they should be "worn in" by now... Quote
demuire Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 And, hahahaa... On my first run all the way from the starting line for about 200 meters I was throwing HUGE rooster tails out the back of the car :) I later on learnt to shortshift to 2nd gear to keep some traction and launch a bit better ;) Quote
mumblezzz Posted June 28, 2004 Author Report Posted June 28, 2004 In short. I sucked. 2nd last or close to it IIRC. but it was lots of fun and my car got dirty and i broke my exhaust on the way home so it was a good day. Quote
demuire Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 You so did not suck, and no, you didn't come in 2nd last either... In fact you beat 4 people :) Quote
