I think you did very well for your first (or near?) go at it. I guess the key is to ensure you go the right way and not hit any poles - if you can start with that, you've gone a long way. Otherwise, have a look at your best tests and that provides some indication of where you'll place next time - once you sort out these little bugs. It sounds like you actually didn't do too badly at all!! We all started like that once - even the Redwarf himself. Giddyup - can't wait to take you on at the next one. That is, if redatto is fixed!! Fook - do we know when the next one is?

Peter: I do NOT have grey hair!!! yet........... okay I keep putting colours through it so I'll never know, but just the same I have NO grey!!! Redwarf: I don't blame you for not being able to keep your mind OFF contractions with only a few weeks to go now!! Wah wah wah!! Aunty datgirl
-
Yes Peter, I agree!! ... and I have to say that the "your" vs "you're" thing is a big pet hate of mine. C'mon people (not just rollaclub), get your contractions right! Funny how certain little things bug you! I wonder if there are generally differing levels of annoyance between: (a) bad spelling (author doesn't know any better); (b) lazy / trying to be trendy typing (the fooly sic stuff); © spelling things how you say it (for example, "cos" instead of "because"); or (d) typos (accidental spelling mistakes). It sounds like people generally are annoyed by (a) and (b)?

irokin I know of a couple of people in BSCC who might need a nav - but they prefer someone who has done a few nav runs before.... nav CV please?!! I could probably get you a really good ride!! datgirl (Brisbane Sporting Car Club Interclub Challenge Co-ordinator)

Oooh it's excellent when Redwarf is excited again!! Giddyup indeed!!!!
-
Absolutely NOT!!! ;-) Couldn't help but brag - not very nice, but I'm excited!!!
-
I will definitely be out there later in the day. I am helping out BSCC with the RACQ rally of yesteryear (basically a big show n shine of really old cars - over 1000 of them!!). BSCC is having a stall and we will be displaying the help.org.au Targa Skyline!! Now for the good bit.... I am lucky enough to be charged with the responsibility of driving the Skyline to the concourse and back to the workshop!!!!!!!! :) The especially nice bit is that I get to drive down the highway at cold o'clock on Sunday morning - mmmm, niiice for twin turbos... somehow I don't mind getting up before the sun for once!!! Anyhoo, I might just HAVE to drop in at Willowbank afterwards for a look ONLY. I know what you're thinking, stoppit now there is NO way I'm entering it. I'm excited!!!!
-
I'm not driving because (a) Redatto is still being repaired; (b) even if it was repaired, I am not quick enough to be competitive; and © there are a shortage of gun navs for the interclub challenge. So am looking for a ride - not sure who I'm going to pair with the GUN mr redwarf, but I'll find someone!
-
I am definitely going to be navigating for someone... not sure who but looking for gun BSCC driver with fast tarmac car - it's an interclub challenge round so we're serious about this!! Redwarf is entering, should be really competitive yet again!

ps. I might add that I've always had to have 3rd party extension for every other khanacross I've done that's non-HSCCQ. Motorkhanas too - although I've only ever done one or two non-HSCCQ since the extension thing was invented. MGCCQ require it for the ironman motorkhana. It seems to that HSCCQ events are an extension free zone? don't get me wrong, definitely NOT HSCCQ bashing, but these seem to be the circumstances - please correct me if I am wrong.

I guess that it needs to be acknowledged that there IS a risk to non competitors first. That admission has been lacking in the past. Some will try and argue that it's too complicated, too hard, we'll alienate those that don't bring it, costs too much etc. But quite simply put - if there is a risk, competitors need 3rd party extension for the same reasons every other event does. I don't think I'll enter the 27 June khanacross for this reason. Redwarf has always said that he thought that HSCCQ khanacrosses were too fast and dangerous. Fun!! but sometimes scary. You can have 14 year old kids without licences fanging at high speed around a bumpy dirt paddock - frightening. anyhoo, I've harped on enough!! :D
-
By the way, this is not THE video we have been talking about, but Rally Q is on channel 10 this Sunday at 1:30 pm. I doubt whether the classics will be on there, but it would be nice if Redwaf appeared!! But watch out for our friends in Car 52 (Paul Bergmann and Chris Murphy) who came 2nd outright in the Queensland Rally Championship in a white WRX! Or our friends in car 40 - Mark Neary and Angela Fackrell (red Suzi Baleno). Or MY datto - car 58, red datsun 1600 driven by Rod Biggar - nav Paul Young. Highly unlikely since they only made it til after lunch day 1. Anyway, have a look, should be good!!!!

I'm pleased that the motorkhana panel has discussed the issue - that is an improvement on how I last heard it!! However, I do find this bizarre. By having no 3rd party extension, this effectively means that HSCCQ and CAMS blieve that there is NO medical risk to non-competing third parties at motorkhanas! Isn't the mantra that all motorsport is dangerous?? On the flip side - using the Mt Cotton hillclimb as an example - the track is completely inaccessible to spectators and the closest you get to the action is several metres. The pit lane speed is the same as motorkhanas. In this situation competitors must have 3rd party extension - even though I would consider the risk smaller due to the relative proximity to the competition. I believe that you have a much higher chance of someone getting hurt at a motorkhana and khanacross than most!! With motorkhanas, you can easily have people wonder in and out of the competition area. It does happen quite regularly - maybe once every couple of months? I remember people on motorcycles (having a track day) or those on bicycles just ignoring barriers and going around them into where someone is completing a test. And motorkhanas are NOT low speed compared to a standing still/walking human being. Not to mention that spectators are very close to the motorkhana action - it's great, but some of those poles are awfully close to the shed area - someone could easily come in too hot and misjudge a handbrake turn and plow into that shed area right through those "barriers" (which to me, as as effective in that situation as bunting). Kids regularly sit on those barriers and wonder between there and the timing ladies all of the time. As for the khanacross - that is crazy!!! HSCCQ are notorious for running khanacrosses that are super fast and require 2nd and 3rd gear over really bumpy terrain. Everyone knows that khanacrosses can be just as fast and as long as autocrosses with a start and finish garage. Actually Fook, I think you're right - there is a much stronger argument for 3rd party extension at the khanacross than any other event. Sorry for the long post datgirl
-
I've had at 2 phone calls, about 30 emails saying that it's cancelled. bugger!! what a pity!! re: the CTP extension - I personally believe that ALL motorkhanas should require them, but HSCCQ have avoided the subject for a while... my understanding is that they don't really know exactly whether they should make people have them..... ignorance is bliss!! :-) If we need 3rd party extension for hillclimbs, autocrosses, khanacrosses, rallying and ALL other types of club level motorsport, what makes motorkhana exempt? The bottom line is that no one really knows and no one seems to be concerned. Actually, the reasons I have been told relate to the barriers - ie, if there are barriers, then there is no risk to 3rd parties outside of the event, therefore no 3rd party insurance extension required. In reality I don't think that barriers at motorkhanas stop the risk at all - when we're at Qld Raceway and we're all in the shed area, we do wonder around outside of that.... and what if a wheel flew off a car and hit a spectator over those "barriers"?? that person would NOT be covered for medical expenses unless the competitor had the 3rd party extension. I would think it would be wise for all organisers to be safe rather than sorry? And that's where I think GCTMC were coming from. I know that motorkhana is an entry level sport and we want to make things as easy as possible for people to enter - I agree wholeheartedly with that. However, the flip side is that if something horrible happened at a motorkhana, that could ruin everything for all of us.... no motorkhanas? Perhaps something to bring up at the motorkhana panel fook? .... and maybe this is a separate thread, I don't know!!
-
do we actually know if the event is cancelled? if we haven't had it confirmed, is it a bit premature to call this thread "QMS 4: cancelled!!"????? have a few of BSCC people lined up to go to the event, so want to give them as much notice as possible if the event actually has been cancelled. Rumours can be an awful thing!!! datgirl desperately seeking info

Yes the dwarf is a beautiful machine ... for a toyota!! :) my favourite toyota ever - apart from Simon Evan's beast!! Ooh I also lurve new batmobile looking Supras.... *drool* Fast isn't the same as style? I disagree. I think that fast = style!! For example, the Fiat Arbarth at Rally of Queenlsand would have to be one of the ugliest and least glamorous pieces of machinery built, but boy is it FAST and therefore stylish *grunt snort gargle*? :D Want one!! Need I say Renault 5 turbo 2, Lancia Stratos, Ford RS2000?? hmm, I sense a trend - they're all 1970s machinery!! Ugly, but damned fast = damned stylish. Conversely, the MX5, Z3 and other pretty little vehicles are gorgeous on the surface but are not fast, therefore not considered stylish?? Appearances are not everything, its the personality that counts! and when a car is well-fast, I consider that to be style, baby, style! :S
-
... but whatever you do, don't leave it to the last minute - they might not be able to get it to you on the spot, may take a couple of days. And they WON'T let you run without it, no exceptions.
-
Uh guys, you're scaring me?? You're supposed to bite back and shriek "EVIL datsuns!! Toyotas are the best!!" and add some insults!! agreeing with me is no fun :-P
-
I have remained silent so you can understand the FULL power of the lure of the Datsun!! I said nought a word and yet Redwarf loves my car unconditionally! One drive is all it takes, then you'll be converted to the side of goodness and happiness. (and before you ask, no you can't drive Redatto, Redwafs only!) GO THE DATSUNS!!!!!! Also have heard rumours that, due to the impending birth of "Dwarf" (second generation driving legend currently residing in belly of Mrs Redwarf - due for eviction in September), Mr Redwarf *MAY* be looking for another rally car project that *MAY* not be a Toyota!! MAY even be a Datsun.............?!!!! read it an' weep corolla-heads datgirl

This is where you name drop - say you're a part of one of the crews, how would they know?
-
Friday 18th June - come one come all - I'm getting a group together from BSCC, you guys should come too!!!
-
At the presentation dinner, channel 10 always has a composition of clips from the rally. Usually includes BAD moments (rolling, crashing etc) and near misses but some funny stuff like Simon Evans coming round a corner and yelling "caution cow!!". Or Sue Evans coughing and spluttering cos smoke from a fire under the car is coming into the cabin and Simon saying "it's okay, the cars still driving good!". It's a top set of clips and amazing that they always have the package of professionally edited clips (this year the song was "black betty") at the end of the same day everyone was rallying. I think they show a super reduced version on ARC but am pretty sure they don't sell that video? At Targa they do the same thing but they sell only 300 at $20 on the night (never to be sold again) and they go within about 2.3 seconds.

*blush* Thanks Redwarf (warning - mutual admiration society incoming): it took us a couple of stages to warm up, but you drove like you had the demon in ya bustin to get out! Your driving was mega fun, the most exciting rollercoaster ride on dirt ever. Acuacaria 2 was the best dirt stage of my LIFE, you were amazing! I never felt scared (okay, so maybe a little bit going sideways over that cliff edge but you caught it thank gawd) and you inspired trust in me too. However, I think you knew that I had a ball with my yahooing and laughing so hard that stop control officials were often fascinated by this hysterical women cackling her head off in the silly seat. Agree - another FANTASTIC event, bring on RoQ classics 2005!!! datgirl ps. I am now a Toyota lovin woman - after being introduced to an extremely nice and interested Simon Evans (incidently, his 1st rally car was a 1600, we had a long chat!), chatted to the lovely Ed Ordynkski (incidently, his 1st rally car was a KE10 back in 1974!) and was rudely snubbed by the worst dancer I have ever seen (Cody Crocker) - I LOVE Toyota!!
-
My previous car names: - Oscar the Galant - grouchy and oscar the grouch coloured - Max the Honda Civic - for no other reason except there was this tiny Max Power sticker on one of the windows when I bought it - Dino the white Datsun 1600 - D for Dino; D for Datsun - (currently own) Firgus the WRX cos his number plate has FIR in it - (currently own) Redatto - the red rally Datsun 1600 - Redatto is the brother of Redwarf - about to sell Firgus and buy Jack the Jackaroo (named by current owner) There you go, told you I love naming cars
-
Oooh, I am SUCH an expert in naming cars (even if I do say so myself). Usually you can derive names from the following: 1. the number plate 2. the first letter of make/model - get a girl's name starting with the same letter 3. the colour of the car 4. something links the car to a character (can be quite obscure, aka "Hal", Fook's car - I'll let him explain if he has not done so already) For example, (presuming you want to name the car in the photo) if your car is a blue Toyota Corolla KE35, brainstorming could go like: The first letter of make/model - get a girl's name starting with the same letter: - Kitty - Karly - Kelli (etc, those are a bit lame though) - Toni - Toyo - Toto (um, still lame) The colour of the car - think of things dark blue: - Bluey - Cookie Monster OOooooooooooooooooh, I KNOW: Grover!!!! No, Super Grover!! :) My work here is done.
