Grim - good point. I guess there is a lot of anger with CAMS that comes from the belief that CAMS should be a non-profit organisation set up to help competitors. CAMS are probably never going to be popular because they are supposed to simultaneously: (a) look after it's members (b) but must make a profit © and have strong links to government
-
You're not the only one. There are clubs that aren't affliated with CAMS and good luck to them. Unfortunately you pretty much are forced to have a governing body if you want insurance. Insurance is pretty important if you want to protect yourself, your family, spectators etc from anything happening! BUT having said that, I'm not the greatest fan of CAMS either. They do not seem to fully understand the very entry level motorsports - what they really involve and the types of people who are involved in them. It seems that much of CAMS policy assumes that everyone wants to be a professional V8 supercar driver!! But for the record, all my dealings with people in the Brisbane CAMS office have been extremely good. It's a controversial topic, are you sure you wanted to open that can of worms Irokin?
-
Really? Very disappointing that CAMS take your money like that. They did it for me when I upgraded from the NRL to the IDL. And it was a substantial saving, something like $150+ did you ring BRD?
-
For the record, it doesn't cost to upgrade... they take the cost of the level 2NS off the rally licence etc. Yeah, tell BRD I sent you, but they might say "Mel who?"!!
-
Psstt if you're looking for a Sparco race suit in odd sizes (no offence Fook), I hear that BRD Racing Developments (phone 5574 6811) have cheap race suits for sale. Tell them that a BRD clubman rally series competitor referred you!!
-
To be honest, I didn't have to do any observed licence test because they had a special rule that if you had a rally licence when they brought in the new rule you didn't have to undertake the observed licence tests. I can't remember if you need to do 2 observed licence tests or not? BUT Fook, if you're only going to navigate, I'm pretty sure you don't have to do any observed licence tests! You can drive all types of events that you currently compete in but you can navigate in rallies, just not drive. You have to do the lecture BUT you can complete it on-line at the CAMS web site. Have you looked at the CAMS web site to check the requirements, I am pretty sure they would have the info you need?? How did you land such a plumb drive with the Sherrin team?? I wish!! The offer still stands, I'm there in 2.4 seconds if required!! Ooh ooh, pick me pick me!! Sorry, this is well off topic

Even at the hillclimbs they're pretty strict on what unregistered cars they let compete.
-
Fook, gosh you had better move quickly if you want your CAMS licence upgraded - it seems to take a little while (in my experience) since it has to go to Melbourne to get processed. I presume you don't need an international licence for the East Coast Targa - if not, you're lucky, cos it takes AGES to get a proper medical done because there are so few doctors that are CAMS accredited in Brisvegas. *ugh* medical *shudder* I just had another thought. If you need your observed licence test done in a hurry and as cheap as possible, I would recommend the Ironman motorkhana ($20) on Saturday. There will be stewards everywhere because of the sprints on the circuit. I'm not sure if you have to speak to the stewards beforehand so they know to watch you? I know those minis, they're going to be competing in the interclub challenge sprints on Saturday for the Brisbane Sporting Car Club. They sound REALLY great. Hey, if you need a stand in nav with all the gear, just let me know! I'd be there in a flash!! (you lucky fish) :)

If it's anything like the cloud that Monkey Magic uses, it'll be well worth it!!
-
Yeah!! stock dattos still rock!! (ps. welcome stockrolla!)
-
I think you need to get the stewards to sign your existing CAMS licence.... you can get a steward to sign for a motorkhana too - that counts as an observed licence test I think? Ask Sheridan... or Rob probably knows. The khanacross at parklands is definitely the best septating out of the lot, I would recommend that the most. Rob, do you have supp regs for the khanacross that can be posted here? (or have you done so already and I'm slow??) dg ps. Fook I take it that you're thinking about navigating in a rally? Have you a driver lined up?

With hillclimbs, your car does not have to be registered - you will just be in a different class to the registered cars that's all. The hillclimbs at Mt Cotton are run by the MG Car Club of Queensland and they have one coming up on Sunday (entries are closed unfortunately). Check out their web site as they have lots of info about the hillclimbs and their requirements. MG Car Club of Queensland The supplementary regulations are pretty much the rules about what can and can't enter into an event (amongst other things). Attached to this message are the supplementary regulations for the event on Sunday. The event is part of a series of things happening, so only read the parts about the hillclimb. IRONMAN2004b.pdf

Go the datto!!!!!

Some more info if you are keen to septate or particeptate :P The event at the autocross track is called a Test-N-Tune day. They are pretty informal with just a quick scrutineering and disclaimer to fill out and then you can go for it. It starts at 10.30am and finishes at 3.00pm. The khanacross is at the Gold Coast Parklands Showgrounds. It might cost you to septate if it is a part of some doof doof car show n shine thingo. I don't have any more information about the khanacross (someone else might though), you can e-mail: info@gctmc.org.au or ring Denis on 55357055 (bh). The ironman hillclimb entries have now closed

Yep, it's the same day as the Ironman hillclimb and the khanacross at parklands. Too much motorsport, so little time! How is it though that when you're all excited about something it gets cancelled and there's nothing else doing (ala Sunday) and then when you're less excited about doing something (ala lack of $$$), there's STACKS doing!! I don't think there's supp regs or anything for the practice autocross though because it's not that formal??? but I will email the IWMAC interclub challenge rep and get back to you. If anyone is interested in the supp regs for the khanacross I can get those too?
-
But where are the cars?
-
I was just talking to Rob and he mentioned a practice autocross out at Willowbank on Sunday 3rd October. You get 5 laps a run and apparently you get heaps of chances to go out there and try stuff.... all for around $30. There's no timing either - it's extremely cheap and extremely fun. This could cure some of those naughty tendencies :P you guys seem to be experiencing!!
-
Errrrr... no photos? looking forward to seeing pics of cars at Jambo?
-
So bad, that's gotta be way cool
-
Booo hoooo!!! I was REALLY looking forward to this

Actually, the Carlos signed pic was from my partner - he went to Rally Oz a few years ago and took this awesome pic, got it developed and then later snuck into an area he shouldn't be in and got Carlos to sign it. He isn't a huge Toyota or Carlos fan, so when we were talking about a present for Rob, he mentioned it - thought it might be more appreciated by Rob. Really sweet I thought!! :D As an old woman (go easy, I'm only 28!), I reckon older men rock!! :P The plates are a really cool present - Mrs Redwarf put lots of thought into that one and we chatted about it. That was 2 big secrets I had to keep in the same week!! (the other being the gender of the bub and that I knew the name he was going to get) I nearly exploded I tell ya!! :)

Check out this new web site!! It's a new idea that will ensure that you will ALWAYS hear about upcoming motor sporting events you are interested in.... What you do is register the types motorsport you are keen on - these vary from tarmac rallies, motorkhanas, test and tune to driver training. Then, whenever an event of interest is coming up, the relevant club will email you the supplementary regulations and information (but no spam). The web site has been developed over many months with input from most SEQ car clubs. The system has been designed so that you'll know about your favourite type of event - no matter whether if you have a CAMS or AASA competition licence or what club you belong to. It's pretty clever and long overdue - check it out!! :P Queensland Motorsport Register

ppssssttt! He's really 32!! Happy birthday old man, I love having friends older than me, I feel SO young! (now kiddies, don't you dare start!)

Wow, that is a BIG bargain. I love bargains like that, if only 1600s came in bargains. Too many people love them though I think!! But I must say I have always had a soft spot for those Celicas. Don't like the later models, just that one. Now, have you got a name for her yet? dg
