  1. Hey, I was looking at doing the 2T as well, there was a guy selling a 2T that he'd started building for a rally car then decided on a rotary instead. He was selling it on allclassifieds if your interested. It was actually reasonably cheap, might have needed to source your own carbs, from memory the one he was offering with it was pretty rubbish. The guy wanted just north of a grand for it, and included the forged pistons and other gear he had bought for it. Pretty sure it had a new crankshaft, the pistons, had been honed, etc etc etc. Check out allclassifieds, may still be up there
  2. Sweet, well thanks at least for the heads up, I'm after a 55. Was gonna check out Campbellfield yesterday, ran out of time. I'll probably be going out in a week or two, i'll let you all know how it goes.
  3. Hey guys, What's the standard of wreckers out west of melbourne. Hear you guys talking about Harvey and Centre Rd, which I'll go to if that's the only choice, but would love somewhere closer.
  4. I've got a 32/32 in mine, love it. Runs a little unreliably when it's cold, when i get in i have to sit with my foot lightly on the accelerator for a few minutes just to keep it alive. But then when it's warm it runs like a dream. My gearbox and clutch are both rooted, so unfortunately I can't give you a real run on performance, but it revs cleanly, idles great and is fine on petrol. My only problem is that i have one of the exhausts that feeds back into the carb, and it now doesn't, so i have some exhaust in my engine bay, which means my cabin ends up smelling like death. Getting that fixed with either a new exhaust manifold or just the old ones off a pre-exhaust reclaim system.
  5. Apparently it's pretty standard, I asked a friend or two of mine first, and they have the same conditions on their lease agreements. Someone on here offered me the loan of their driveway/garage, recon I'll just take that up in a week or two. Cheers to Woz for the offer, and everyone for the suggestions.
  6. Don't have the lease in front of me, but it's something like "I will not undertake mechanical works on a car, motorbike, boat or other, lest my landlord eat my soul and throw me out on the street" something along those lines. But they've just ripped out all the concrete in the driveway of the unit, wish they'd told me, I could have just done what i needed last weekend and if i'd spilled any out, well, it's all gone now.
  7. Hi guys, My landlord was fairly explicit that I'm not allowed to play around with my baby in my driveway, and was wondering if someone in the western suburbs could lend me their driveway for a weekend day sometime soonish. I need to run some cleaner through my oil system and change the oil. Have my own tools etc, and will be taking all my crap away with me again, just need somewhere to do the job. Willing to pay whichever kind person takes me up with a six pack of the beer of your choice. send me an email on [email protected] or a text on 0418236112 Thanks.
  8. Radiator recored, running like a dream, looking at fixing up the boot

  9. Haha cheers, one of the first things I did when I decided it was gonna have several hundred dollars of sound gear was make sure it was all watertight and securely locked. Unfortunately it lived for several years as a paddock basher for my neighbour's friend, and they drank and smoked up a whole bunch in it, so there were various beer stains and bong fires in the original carpeting and mysteriously in the boot... as though they had been smoking up in the boot. So one of the first things we did was completely strip it and get all new carpeting etc, but they wanted insane prices for fairly crappy boot stuff, and I wasn't in a mood to get ripped off fixing up a free car.
  10. Haha, yeah, that's what I meant by a 'flip job' in my original post. Heard it was a pretty sweet way of freeing up space. My neighbour also did something sweet with his KE70. Made it look like a 4wd by bolting the spare to his roof racks, then cut out the old spare wheel space and used the hole in his boot to create a recessed storage unit. Had a tool kit and his oil etc in there, so it didn't have to sit in his boot and make it look cluttered. Absolutely awesome, if I still lived next door to him i'd ask to take photos for you all. I have zero welding skills and nowhere near enough time haha, hence asking if there were any shops that people knew of.
  11. Haha, cheers, Yeah, i'm an arts student, so spelling wanky words is practically an entire subject. Thanks for all the advice gang, not quite sure if just tossing in carpeting will allow me to bolt a sub box in properly, have other people found this works? I'll PM Tiger, he's here in Melbourne, so that should make life easier.
  12. Hey all, My name's Michael, owned my Rolla for a while now, but only recently had it registered (and even then, on the dodge). Recently moved from the ACT, and proud to say my baby made it all the way down at 110 (or 130) without a hiccup. She's a 1981 KE55 four door. Currently painted undercoat yellow, with a pair of black racing stripes on the boot and bonnet (missed the roof haha). Mostly stock, apart from weber 32/32 carby. Runs slightly rough, but loads of fun, and a real P plater car. Living in Essendon. Interested in coming for a run some night, what's the deal with meet-ups? Cheers.
  13. Hi all, Looking to neaten up my car boot, as basically the old interior had oil and other crap spilled all over it (and possibly a small fire) and was thrown out. As a result, my boot is all bare metal, and I don't even have the small bit of wood that usually covers the spare (not a clue where this went). I am looking to put a reasonable sound system in my car, and so was wondering what other people have done to their interiors? Looked through galleries etc. but couldn't really find pictures of peoples boots that weren't crazy custom jobs or with the original gear in them. I need something that will cover my boot floor, can have a sub box and a pair of amps bolted to it, but still allows me access to my spare when I need it. Was considering doing a flip job on my spare but ended up looking like way too much work and $$. Should mention, I'm a student, and so the cheaper options are preferable, but can save up and grab more expensive ones if needed. I'm driving an '81 KE55, so really any options from the early 80's/late 70's are best. I'm living in Melbourne, if anyone knows a good shop down here that has done similar work for them. Didn't know if this was the right section, as while a question, it's aesthetic rather than mechanical. So feel free to delete/move admin. Thanks all, M
  14. my radiator is screwed and it pisses me off.

  15. I'v recently put a new carbie in my KE55 and was looking for someone who could help me out with a minor thing. My old Carbie created pressure for an air hose that went in to the head of my engine. This pressure kept oil from coming up through this hole. When I got the new Carb it didn't have a pancake on the top, so there was nowhere to put the hose. I just got one of those cheap little filter things from SCA or wherever. Turns out these don't create any pressure downward and so the useless little thing is now full of oil. Oil is also being sprayed through the engine bay. A friend thought a little one way valve would do the trick, if I could find one nice and easily. Anyone run into the same problem? And if so, how did you fix it?
  16. Something has gone tragically wrong with my radiator. I have a KE55, entirely stock apart from a Weber carb. The car was running beautifully, drove it from Canberra to Melbourne without a problem. In the last few days however it has started overheating at times it really shouldn't. Today is a fairly cool day in Melbourne, and on the 5 minute drive to my girlfriends work this morning it overheated. When I arrived back home there was coolant coming from somewhere on the underside of the radiator, but I couldn't figure out exactly where. It definitely wasn't a loose hose however as it was coming from the wrong place. The radiator was hissing and there was plenty of steam. Checked my fan belt, definitely turning properly etc. Last time this happened I checked for bubbles and there were some, I'm waiting for the car to cool down so I can do the same test again. The level in my overflow isn't changing at all, and I may need a longer hose for that. I'm going to replace the radiator cap as soon as possible, as that's old and fairly buggered. Any other suggestions of things to try before I get the radiator reconditioned? Thanks in advance
  17. Yeah, I'll just be different, I'd run about thirty or so. All those placards say far too little, cos then when you hit a bump the tyres absorb part of the shock, hence making the ride feel smoother, and also cos they wear more, sending you to the tyre man more often. But careful of putting too much in, as it pushes out the centre of the rolling edge, meaning you get too much wear there. tricky game. experiment experiment is gonna be the key.
  18. OK. So I want to put a 2T into my KE55. I have the engine and the g/box sourced, all ready to go. Know its been done a bit, and that they came out in Japan as a "race" model Corolla with a 2T in them. I'm gonna mate it to a T50 g/box cos my old four speed stock one is a bit rooted, plus, u know, five speed. After that, the block has been honed, and i don't know whether this means i'll need new pistons, rings, etc, and can't find a decent answer on the web. I know that honing requires taking off a very little bit of the inside of the block, but does it necessitate new pistons? It'll be the carb'd version, so i want to run twin side-draughts, but don't know about brand. Iv searched Toymods and here and still can't find really good answers. Solex seems to be really popular, but as does Holley and others. After that, I'm not gonna be running really hard starts or anything rough, so will my good old tailshaft work for now?? I know putting too large an exhaust on a smaller engine like this will do no good, it'll create some draft issues, but will a 2 1/2 be too big?? should i just run a 2? as below, i'm no mechanic, but a friend and I are doing what we can, with the help of a mechanic neighbour, so i can get hoist time etc reasonably cheap. If anyone has a rough guess as to price of the work, like i said, don't need to buy the block, or any of the other stuff that comes with a stock engine. Thanks for any help and advice, Michael
  19. They'll look pretty ok?? just don't wanna end up with shite door panels.
  20. Bundoora?? lol sorry, I'm used to living in ACT, which is tiny
  21. Hi all, have just sourced a gorgeous dash etc for my car, but seller wont organise postage to canberra. Was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me by picking it up and organising postage. Would be willing to remunerate you for your time, and of course i would be paying all postage fees etc.
  22. Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knew the easiest way to get a white interior for my KE55? I have red vinyl doorskins in it at the moment, but they are making painting options a shade hard, but i definately don't want the cream/brown interior, as iv already thrown out one set of those (they were in bad condition anyway). the red vinyl looks cool, with one cigarette style burn on the LHR one, but i know a shop that has the stuff spare that will sell the required amount of the vinyl. But what i really want is some plain(ish) white ones, for all 4 doors, so i can paint the car the color i want!! also, would kill for a dash in decent condition, but kinda losing hope on that front. anyone know of anything?
  23. haha, your a champion. I'm gonna wait to see whether its fixable first, if not then ill start hunting for one.
  24. am thinking of putting a v6 in to my KE55 too. I know i should probably start my own topic etc, but i just want vague ideas, not starting yet. its that or an SR20. but they are proving expensive and hard to source, whereas commodores are very easy edit: how easy is it to throw on the gearbox from the com too? cos vaguely want a 5 speed and something better than the pansy little 4 speed in the rolla
  25. turns out my dizzy was loose as anything, but because i was trying to start it myself, i couldnt see it waving about like no ones business, and a quick tighten up caused the 30 year old beauty to start first time, reminding me exactly why i love toyota. then i discovered the massive leaks in the radiator... another problem for another time unfortunately
