As soon as we move house - 25th/26th, work can commence on the shitbox corolla! wooooooooo! Adam, you got those motors handy? Even just one? Finally decided, 4K pride to start with. And if (when?!) that bores me, its either sell the car or 4AGZE or hopefully 4AGTE. ;)
-
I vote boosting the 12a for minimal fuss, still will make a shitload of power. Although I guess ultimately the 13bt would be better, depends on that stuff called money.

Alternatively; Give a man some fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. :jamie: Maybe we should make the OP feel warm and cuddly? :jamie:

Here's some pics of some of the stuff I've accumulated, tacho only arrived today... second time lucky eh. Slotted rotors, woot? Some pads that came with them, they're meant to be 'performance' pads but no idea of brand, neither did the dude who I bought em off. Anyone know who puts blue backing on their brake pads? And the most trivial of things, a tachometer! But I finally have one, so now instead of just guessing how much I'm killing it... I'll know! Cool Story Hansel! :) :) :)

So no 4AGZE powah figure? I should be able to make it to the track for ye olde watching on Sunday, hope so anywho! 'Team Bench Racing' New sticker me thinks  2SLOW4U new numberplate? :)
-
W3RD :) That's how we roll.

Slotted rotors and pads arrived today! :)

Well, when it is tuned post up a graph for all to marvel at the mighty 4AGZE :)
-
Your car end up getting tuned Adam?
-
phowar! that's a shitload of info. Cheers! The hybrid construction will have to go on pause while I find a new place to live... :)
-
I should I should... but have just been informed we're moving house... which complicates some shit a little! :D :) Gotta work everything out, farken weird shit life.

My aim for the car is something that's fun, will run somewhere into the 15s, can go around a track ok and is relatively cheap! I'm mainly considering the hybrid option because most of the parts are available to me locally which is a big factor in saving costs. Also, can't see the end result being anyworse than a 4AGE, infact it will probably be better :D . One can hope anyway... Anywho! Currently thinking 86mm flycut 3T-C pistons, balanced bottom end and stock head for starters. Not sure what to do with porting, cams, valves and springs, or carbs for that matter. So for those that have dabbled with hybrids or 2TG's like redwarf, retrospekt styler etc. Any recommendations in terms of head flow? Stock valves capable enough? I was just thinking of cleaning up the head maybe slight porting on the exhaust side and some heavy duty valve springs. Cams are pretty much personal preference I guess, but any recommendations for say 7000rpm~ish top end would be cool. Then topping it off with some webers if the budget allows otherwise finding something else, SU's perhaps? ;) EDIT!: Thought I'd just make sure, it is as simple as bolting on the 2TG head and swapping over the cam gear isn't it? No tricks unlike putting 3TC internals in a 2TG block? Thoughts appreciated! Thanks again all :)

It's a blue corona, used to wear the plates 'kamakze' or soemthing along those lines. If its a different car, that's two coronas for sale relatively cheaply :)
-
Would that corona be the old 'kamakaze' one or whatever the fook? If not, I can probably sell that one on fairly cheap too :) and everyone knows that 4G63 > all 2.0 litre 4 cyl turbos and F20C > 2.0 litre N/A :D

They mention the 4Y crank in the toysport article Retrospekt posted, seems a bit extreme. So exhaust manifolds do fit, that's good to know. Way to confuse me Redwarf :) Thanks for the confirmation anyway towe001 and Redwarf What's the 2TGEU injection gear like? Worth following for N/A applications?
-
If I go ahead it will be a 3T-C block with a 2T-G head, not the 3T innards in the 2T block. I've a question when it comes to this, will manifolds swap across between 3T and 2T heads? After some searching it appears exhaust will be intake won't, is this correct? Retrospekt that geocities link is pretty ace! Summary of pretty much all requirements. Any opinions on flycutting the toyota pistons versus spending large on aftermarket pistons? So many thoughts, yet I don't want to ask all these stupid questions! :)
-
That sounds pretty close to what I'd like to aim for, something thats torquey yet has some top end. That last bit has me a bit worriedthough , the 'cash' bit. I have the money, and I'm willing to do things right however if theres an equally safe but cheaper route I'll take it ;) . I fear to ask, but... how much has gone into yours to get that figure? Or the hybrid for that matter cause that's more relevant. I was hoping to just strip the bottom end down, give it new rings and bearings and then just play with the head, cams, carbs etc a set of pistons might make this a bit more expensive excercise. And on that note, what're the stock twin solex's like? (anyone, not specifically Redwarf) Toymods appears to be down at the moment, all of today in fact... :D Shoulda saved those search results last week! Cheers
-
Nah didn't mean at the wheels meant at the flywheel, I'd love to be able to stretch the budget to attempt that :D I'll search the old toymods forums for some further info, have serached the new-uns and turned some stuff up. Seem like pretty capable engines really, respond quite well to the usual, cam, carb, exhaust, compression mods. The reason I'm contemplating this is I have access to a TE72 for SFA, and access to a 2TG head for what I consider a reasonable price (not sure if it is or not though?) Maybe a 4AGE is a better option but extra cubes and still DOHC, even if only 8 valve, has got to count for evening it up a little. Thought this would be worth considering as well. Will go search a bit more and then get back here with some more specific questions about revs, carbs, cams, etc. Anywho, cheers all! Please add anything more, even a general firsthand summary would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey all, just curious as to what people think about these engines? I don't know a great lot about them, have searched a bit here and elsewhere but its a bit hard to search for them due to their title. They seem to be pretty popular with the celica crowd and can make around 160hp relatively easy (correct me if I'm wrong!) but less people have them in corollas. Is there a reason for this? Weight? I'm considering putting one in my KE70 as things are available and relatively cheap...! But just thought I'd get some opinions on: a) the 'hybrid' motor itself - how good is it etc b) whether or not its suitable for a KE70 Personally I can't see why it wouldn't me a reasonable candidate, better than the 4K! Anyway, any input appreciated :D Cheers Danno

air in the lines perhaps?
-
Yeah, cept I want the diff/gearbox too :y: So do you know of a 2TG head lying around up here?
-
I might have access to a cheap TE72... unless luke the punk makes it an ae72 :y:
-
:y: Luke wins the prize. Any idea on the condition of the 2TG head? and price? Can't really be f@$ked spending a lot of money on a corolla that won't have balls in the end, so still wondering what I'm going to do. A T Engine conversion seems a bit painful but might be worth it in the end, over the K anyway. Otherwise I'll just have ye olde phearsum 4K. Decisions! :P
-
Off the shelf, was a good price - secondhand but never used so didn't turn it down. And its not like my corolla is gunna be a nuts track car anyway. Shitload better than anything else I could have got for the money. Although considering spending even more money and pissing the K motor off now but I dunno :P What's the going rate for a 3TGTE or even a 2TG/3T hybrid? :y:
